Caitlin Clark drew nearly one-fifth of the flagrant fouls in her rookie season, where most of the time she was on the floor. The story continued in the 2025 season, too, when the player came up stronger and more muscular after the off-season. One of her infamous incidents involved the Connecticut Sun, when Jacy Sheldon poked her in the eye, and Marina Mabrey shoved her down.
Recently, Mabrey came up with a crash-out jar to keep checks on her heated moments. The star kept her cool in later games and now regrets her actions against the Fever guard.

Marina Mabrey Opens Up On Shoving Caitlin Clark
Fresh off the win against the New York Liberty, the Indiana Fever team was up against the struggling Connecticut Sun. With the home crowd behind them, they tormented the Connecticut team, and the moment came when Jacy Sheldon kept a close check on her, which frustrated the playmaker and turned into an ugly pushing match.
Marina Mabrey stepped in out of nowhere and brought down the 2024 Rookie with a chest bump.
Recently, the veteran guard opened up on the incident in an interview and said, “I know when I went too far with things, and it’s shameful. It’s like, ‘really, Marina, that was ridiculous’. So, for example, the Caitlin thing. When the play was over, and everyone was like, that was obvious that my emotions of us losing and losing and losing, and then she’s like low-key punking our team on top of it, like that was too far.”

The play stopped for a long time, with fans booing the Sun players for their aggressive play on the court. Mabrey got a technical foul for her actions, and later Sophie Cunningham’s retaliation earned her a technical foul and the enforcer name.
But, interestingly, according to a WNBA insider, it’s not only CC who faces physicality in the game.
WNBA Insider Mentions Physicality Is Not Only For Caitlin Clark
After multiple hard fouls and injuries, there was huge criticism of the league’s lenient approach toward the irregular refereeing. An Indiana Fever analyst also slammed the league for the physical play against Clark, highlighting multiple instances against the 24-year-old. But on Rachel DeMita’s ‘The Courtside Club’ podcast, a WNBA insider denied such claims and even gave recent examples to prove her point.
“I know everyone thinks this is all about Caitlin, but across the league this has been an ISSUE. Go back to Candace’s rookie year, there’s a game she gets laid out. It’s crazy what they all went through… The attention on the league now is forcing the league’s hand,” Annie Constabile said.

The league, though, needs to take action against such physicality in the game to prevent career-ending injuries and other injuries, and to streamline the gameplay.
