The March Madness games are on, with top college stars on the floor to prove themselves and in the national title. The tournament used former stars like Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers for promotional activities, including billboards and advertisements.
While the top players left a mark on the competition, their few milestones are already in danger as the Fever guard lost her illustrious record in the first round of the competition, and the player who surpassed the former Iowa guard is Mikayla Blakes.

Mikayla Blakes Surpasses Caitlin Clark’s Record
The college basketball season is running and gunning now, with top WNBA prospects putting in everything to win it all in their final season. While Day one of the NCAA tournament saw some of the biggest performances on the floor, Mikayala Blakes individually earned a special honor, unlocking her offensive performance against High Point.
She scored 30 points against the 15-seed team, taking home a 102-61 win. With that, the player surpassed CC in the highest scorer list at the fifth position in the sophomore year.

The forward has a great season and matched Clark’s record for most 30+ points games against top 25 teams in the competition. During the same March Madness game, Blakes also set the Vanderbilt single-season scoring record and led the nation in scoring with a 27-point average.
As for CC, the Fever guard will be looking for the potent rookie from the talented draft class.
Caitlin Clark’s Possible Teammate from the NCAA Level
The Fever front office is already searching for a solution to the supermax contract, and one possible move to ease pressure would be a top rookie pick to fill in the gaps for the team. While Fever ide has picked numbers 10 and 25 in the 2026 WNBA draft, the aim would be to nail the first-round pick.
Keeping the 2024 rookie at the heart of their plans, the team could easily target versatile players like Kiki Rice, Madina Okot, or Serah Williams.
Okot and Williams are strong around the rim with the capability of holding their ground against top forwards at the defensive end. They can even score on fastbreak and provide a strong interior presence for the Fever team. Kiki Rice, though, is a very intriguing option given her shooting prowess, playmaking ability, and perimeter defence, potentially taking the Fever team to new heights.
