The Minnesota Lynx are soaring, and they just made history. The league’s top-seeded team recently crushed the Connecticut Sun 94-70 at Mohegan Sun Arena. However, the victory came as yet another historic feat for the Lynx. All of that just days after the Lynx endured their first consecutive defeats of the season.
It was a good game for the Lynx after a rough 14-point loss to the Seattle Storm two days earlier. But it did not take the super team to bounce back and show why they are a real threat to every team contending for a playoff spot.
Minnesota Lynx Tops League With Franchise Record
While the postseason is looming large, teams are getting a bit serious with their intentions going forward. And the Lynx are pretty much clear on that. Minnesota notched its 31st win of the season to break the franchise’s single-season wins record and clinch the WNBA’s No. 1 playoff seed.

However, the Lynx came out swinging after a tight first quarter, where they led 21-19. The second quarter was where they took over with a 16-4 run to build a 42-29 halftime lead. The Sun, despite grabbing 11 offensive rebounds, couldn’t keep up. They fell short while shooting just 35.9% from the field and sinking only one three-pointer before the break.

Meanwhile, with the league’s best three-point percentage, the Lynx were raining triples. They hit seven in the first half alone. Their sharpshooting and teamwork overwhelmed Connecticut, and they never looked back.

Additionally, five Lynx players dropped double digits as they had their depth dominate the court. Alanna Smith and DiJonai Carrington led with 18 points each, with Smith hitting 4-of-6 threes and Carrington sparking the bench. Apart from that, Courtney Williams added 15 points, eight rebounds, and four assists and sliced through the Sun’s defense. However, Williams broke the Lynx record just a couple of days ago.
Minnesota Lynx Line Up Performing At Their Best
While the Lynx front liners fired up, they got great support from the rest of their mates. Kayla McBride, the WNBA’s seventh all-time three-point shooter, drained five triples for 15 points. To support her feat, MVP frontrunner Napheesa Collier delivered 17 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks.
Additionally, Minnesota’s 15 three-pointers tied their second-highest mark this season. With this level of domination, the opponent did not have much to offer from their end. The Sun, sitting at 10-29 but hot with five wins in their last seven, tried to fight back.
Despite a third-quarter push from Mamignan Touré’s three and Aaliyah Edwards’ layup, which cut the lead to 11, Carrington answered with a clutch long-range shot. The Lynx kept swinging, building their lead to 24 by the final buzzer. Their 31-8 record puts them 5.5 games ahead of the Las Vegas Aces, locking in homecourt advantage for the playoffs.
