The Minnesota Lynx took care of business against the Chicago Sky, 80-75, at Target Center on Sunday behind the stellar play of Courtney Williams and Napheesa Collier.
With the win, the Lynx set a new franchise record for most consecutive home wins to start a season with 11. They improved to a league-best 17-2 heading into the WNBA All-Star Weekend.
The Lynx have certainly turned heads with their dominant campaign, and at this juncture, it’s tough to see any team having the ability to stop them in a series.
Courtney Williams Returns To The All-Star Game
Williams has been integral to Minnesota’s potent season. The 5ft 8 guard is putting out some impressive numbers. She’s currently averaging 13.5 points—her highest since 2021—4.8 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 1.5 steals. Additionally, the Georgia-born star has been providing all-around support for the WC Player of the Month for June Collier.

With this, the 31-year-old Williams got a WNBA All-Star nod for the second time in her already impressive career. She shared that WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert personally called her to give the good news. However, Williams hilariously admitted that she had her apprehensions at first.
“Cathy called me, I actually declined the phone call at first because it (only) had a number. But she called right back. She said, ‘This is Cathy.’ I said, ‘Cathy who?’ And she said, ‘I have good news. You’re an All-Star.’ It turned me up, I was super hyped about it,” Williams said after their win over the Sky.

The veteran guard was first named an All-Star in 2021 when she was with the Atlanta Dream. Since then, she had struggled to find her place before landing with the Lynx last season. She helped the team reach the WNBA Finals but fell short against the New York Liberty in five pulsating games.
Minnesota Lynx Duo In Midseason Spectacle
Despite the uncanny exchange, Williams’ team will be lacing up for the ASG showdown at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on July 19. While Williams made it to the reserve, Collier got one of the team captains’ roles. Napheesa will be alongside Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark after being the top vote-getter.
Collier and Clark will be tasked with choosing their teammates via the draft. It’s safe to assume that the Lynx forward, who will play in the midseason showcase for the fifth time, will have her eyes on Williams.
Sharing the floor in the All-Star Game will surely be a memorable moment for the Lynx teammates. It could also boost their morale as they get back to work when the league resumes and the competition gets stiffer.
