It’s not done until it’s done. And that’s what the Minnesota Lynx are thinking pretty much now. The league’s top-seeded team is writing history again, and they did it in style on Saturday. The Lynx thrashed the Connecticut Sun 94-70 at Mohegan Sun Arena, and it came with a franchise feat.
The game was a no-nonsense show for the Sun, who are sitting around the bottom of the league at the 11th seed. Though coach Cheryl Reeve blasted the Lynx’s defense after recent shortcomings, there was a significant improvement. However, continuing their already phenomenal season so far, Minnesota let that all slide.
Minnesota Lynx Make Franchise History With Connecticut Sun Blowout
The Saturday game was no joke for the Lynx, as they couldn’t take a chance on the rest of the teams in the top six and take it as an easy game. The victory over the Sun marked their 31st win of the season, a new franchise record, topping the 30 wins they notched last year in a shorter 40-game schedule.

With a 44-game slate this season, the Lynx’s dominance is something to behold, and they’re not slowing down as the playoffs loom. However, coming into the game, Minnesota was already riding high with 30 wins, tying their previous best.

They needed just one more to make history, and boy, did they deliver. Although the Sun kept it close early, trailing 21-19 after the first quarter, the Lynx flipped a switch in the second, outscoring Connecticut 21-10 to take a commanding 42-29 lead at halftime.

From there, it was all Minnesota, as they cruised to a 24-point rout, leaving the Sun with no chance to catch up. It was a positive coming out for the Lynx after enduring their first consecutive defeats of the season to Atlanta.
Minnesota Lynx Top Liners Fired At Right Time
While both of the teams saw it coming right from the first quarter, players on the Lynx lineup took things too seriously. Five of their star players stepped up big, each hitting double digits. Alanna Smith led the charge with 18 points, shooting a red-hot 7-of-10 from the field, including 4-of-6 from three.
Additionally, DiJonai Carrington matched her with 18 points off the bench and added three assists. Napheesa Collier was her usual stellar self and dropped 17 points while grabbing nine rebounds. Courtney Williams chipped in 15 points and eight boards, and Kayla McBride rounded it out with 15 points and six assists.
Apart from the furious scoring, the team’s balance was on full display. Their depth and chemistry overwhelmed a tough Sun squad. And with this win, it pushed the Lynx to a league-best 31-8 record, 5.5 games ahead of the Las Vegas Aces and 6.5 ahead of the Phoenix Mercury. It also clinched the WNBA’s top playoff seed as they secured homecourt advantage throughout the postseason. In Chery Reeve’s words, it would be a massive edge.
