Napheesa Collier and Cathy Engelbert have been one of the hottest WNBA topics at the moment. In a recent statement, Collier lashed out at Engelbert for her alleged lack of accountability. As the Lynx bowed out of the season in the semis, the Minnesota star seemed to have a lot to say about how the WNBA leadership is performing. And quite frankly, it was not a happy review. While Collier’s comments set the CBA negotiation topic ablaze, the Lynx star explained herself while speaking with Kamala Harris.
Ever since Collier’s comments about the WNBA leadership, there has been constant scrutiny. And now, with things seemingly turning a bit murky, the 29-year-old decided that it was time for her to explain the roots of the outburst.
Napheesa Collier Opens Up About Why She Criticized Cathy Engelbert
Collier recently made an appearance on ‘A Day of Unreasonable Conversation 2025’. She also had the former US Vice President Kamala Harris beside her. Speaking about her now viral comments, the Lynx star stated that the outburst was not a planned one. The 29-year-old pointed out how things had been behind closed doors. And despite multiple attempts, things had remained unchanged.

“I saw nothing was changing. Coaches, winning and losing alike, were complaining about the same things, over and over again. Players, over and over again, we weren’t seeing a change that our leadership was trying to make. And I think I just got to the point where I was fed up,” Collier added.

The Lynx star also elaborated that she did not care if she was being criticized or supported. She just knew that whatever she was saying was right. And much to her surprise, a lot of prominent WNBA athletes came forward to back Collier. For example, A’ja Wilson, who received the MVP from Bam Adebayo this year, publicly voiced her support for Collier.

A’ja Wilson Makes Her Support Towards Napheesa Collier Public
Things have taken quite a dark turn in the realm of WNBA. Only weeks prior, it was Engelbert who happily posed with Wilson after handing out the 2025 MVP award. But now, the Las Vegas Aces star is looking to make some stern comments. Following Collier’s criticism of Engelbert, where she called the WNBA leadership the ‘worst,’ Wilson has now come forward to support her.

“I was honestly disgusted by the comments that Cathy made. But at the same time, I’m very appreciative that we have people like Phee in our committee of players’ association representing us, because that’s what we are going to have to continue to make the push to stand on what we believe in. I’m grateful to have those types of people be able to continue to speak up for us,“ Wilson said.
Surely, it looks like the athletes have vehemently started to revolt against the system. And with the CBA negotiations around the corner, it is now imperative for the leadership to control the situation and work towards the growth of the league as a whole.
