The New York Liberty is ready for the new era after an early exit from the 2025 WNBA playoffs. The Liberty fired its HC, Sandy Brondello, as part of the evolution, as the GM talks in length about the idea behind the decision. While the top team players like Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu, and Natasha Cloud had little say in that decision, the franchise expects them to come on board after the CBA negotiations.
The 33-year-old point guard, however, is active in the offseason and not shying away from sharing her thoughts publicly. Recently, she attended the rally for Mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, where she showed her support for a Democratic Party member.
Natasha Cloud Shows Support for Zohran Mamdani
On the hardwood, the Liberty team had its title defense cut short following a defeat against the Phoenix Mercury. Though it was a devastating loss, the Liberty GM Jonathan Kolb declared a ‘massive opportunity’ ahead, as the franchise expects major changes after the exit.

On the same grounds, the former WNBA champion is expecting a change in the City’s highest post – the Mayor. Attending the Democratic Party candidate rally, she gave a speech encouraging people to vote for Mamdani.
“I refuse to accept a world where people are punished for seeking safety or silenced for speaking the truth. I refuse a system that values profit over people and power over love. And that is why I am so very proud to tell you that I stand with Zohran Mamdani. Zohran has shown us, he has shown us what true leadership looks like when it is grounded in courage and compassion,” Cloud said to the people in the rally.

The Democratic Party’s Eric Adams currently holds the position. At the same time, his fellow party member, Mamdani, will face a challenge from Curtis Sliwa from the Republican Party and Andrew Cuomo, who is an independent candidate. Even though the 33-year-old Democrat has massive support, the points made by the WNBA star validate her stance against the capitalist economy.
In relation to the current CBA negotiations, the WNBPA is also seeking its fair share of profit, along with a salary increase. It will be interesting to see how Tash’s speech impacts the negotiation talks in CBA. As we understand, the star is not afraid to speak out and act on social issues and encourages her fellow dancers to do the same.
Natasha Cloud Talks About The WNBA’s Role In Saving Democracy
The former Mercury player was on Sue Bird’s podcast – A Touch More, where she talked about her views on the ongoing CBA negotiations. While she was happy with the players’ unity, she expected the same from them regarding social causes as well. Cloud mentioned that the WNBA played a vital role in saving democracy by keeping social issues at the forefront and fighting for justice.
She referred to the year 2020, which was marked by numerous social issues, including the pandemic, the Black Lives Matter movement, and the push for gender equality. The player recalled the time as she said, “I just wish that during this time we would have a little bit more voices from our league because there was a point where we saved democracy in 2020, and no one wants to give us that. But you were one of the heads of leading that and doing it in a very loud and harsh way, but a very subtle and graceful way.”
The former Mercury player added that players today also need to stick together and raise their voices for social causes, as she felt that over the last two to three years, everyone had become too busy with their personal affairs, leaving less time to give back to society.
