The Phoenix Mercury did not have one of its best games recently. Going up against the Chicago Sky, the Mercury faced stiff competition. Although Angel Reese’s Chicago Sky has been eliminated from the WNBA playoffs, the team is making time hard for the playoff contenders in the middle. However, while the Mercury did manage to cross the line, a large chunk of the credits goes to Kahleah Copper and Natasha Mack.
The Mercury are sitting pretty at number four on the WNBA table. With 24 wins and 14 losses, the team is looking well on track to qualify for the playoffs. Meanwhile, dropping her first career double-double in the evening, Mack shared some surprising news about her performance.
Natasha Mack Was Manifesting Her Double-Double From A Long Time
Mack and Copper were two of the mainstays of the game. Although the 27-year-old chipped in with only 10 points and 12 rebounds, the timing of her play was pretty much crucial. Right in the last minute of the game, the former Oklahoma star clinched a couple of rebounds. She also made an all-important block, which was incidentally her fifth block, a career-high.

And while she was elated about getting to her first career double-double, the Mercury star pointed out how she has been manifesting the same for quite some time now. “Yes and no. I was like, ah, I think it happened, and I was like, well, the domain needs to be, so I was like, well, it is what it is. I don’t know why I see a triple-double every night. That’s hard,” said Mack.

Surely, this was a memorable moment for the 27-year-old athlete. With such a performance in front of a sellout crowd, Mack will definitely try to keep up with the good work in the future. Apart from Mack, Copper, too, was phenomenal. Celebrating her 31st birthday, the Mercury star dropped 28 points. Alyssa Thomas, too, had 15 points, which helped the Mercury edge out the Sky. Meanwhile, looking at Phoenix’s surge, Thomas’ name is coming up as a primary pick. Alysaa Thomas recently broke her own triple-double season record as the Mercury defeated the Sparks. And to further assert her dominance in the league, supporters are pushing Thomas into the MVP race.

Satou Sabally Pushes Alyssa Thomas As MVP While Natasha Mack’s Phoenix Mercury Marches On
Mack is surely at the top of the world at the moment. That is because the 27-year-old has not had a great season so far. Getting some limited gametime, Mack is averaging just 4.4 points per game, along with 5.3 rebounds and 0.8 assists. Thus, her maiden career double-double will boost her confidence to play a supporting role alongside stars like Alyssa Thomas, who is drawing MVP buzz.

Thomas is currently having a dream run. Till now, the Mercury star has played 32 games and is averaging 15.9 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 9.3 assists. And looking at such a stat line, fellow star Satou Sabally cannot help but endorse Thomas for the MVP race. “I would tell them she’s one of a kind. No on has been doing or has ever did anything like her. And she is the Most Valuable Player in the whole league. Period,” Sabally said.
Now then, there are quite a few names already taking the front seat in the MVP debate. And two among them are Napheesa Collier and A’ja Wilson. Thus, with the MVP race getting intense, fans cannot wait to see how things pan out next.
