The New York Liberty is tightening things up. The side has been out of shape and form for a long time (to their standards) and is looking to shake up a few things to enter the postseason on a high note. The side has already taken steps, signing former champion Emma Meesseman. This makes three WNBA Finals MVPs on their roster.
But to complete the deal, the franchise needed to free up the space, and they did so by releasing another champion forward. The franchise announced the news in an emotional post.

The deal with the European star was sealed a week ago and awaited visa clearance to allow her to play for the team. Once the front office received the forward’s visa confirmation, they immediately terminated the contract of Jaylyn Sherrod.
The second-year guard averaged 1.2 points in 5.8 minutes for the side. She won the WNBA title in 2024 with the Liberty side. The franchise confirmed the news via a social media post.
“Jaylyn Sherrod is a champion in every sense of the word. She embodies the passion, grit, and relentlessness that define the city of New York. Her rise from undrafted free agent to WNBA champion is one of the most remarkable stories I’ve had the good fortune to witness, a testament to perseverance, and a powerful reminder to always push the boundaries and to never give up,” Liberty general manager Jonathan Kolb praised the youngster for her contribution.

With multiple injuries in the forward line, the side fills in the position, giving away the guard’s place. The incoming star could feature in the upcoming game, as she has played in the EuroLeague recently and won the MVP for the third time in a row, highlighting her readiness to take the court.

Coach Sandy Brondello also held a meeting after the Wings’ loss, trying to stop the ‘bleeding’. With Breanna Stewart out of rotation, the side struggles to find a dependable player at the forward position. The addition of the Belgian star would solidify their chances once again.
The side will face the Connecticut Sun next at the Mohegan Sun Arena. This could be their chance to get back on track before the postseason preparations start.
