As soon as the WNBA season comes to an end, the franchises become quite busy. Most teams are shaping up with new head coaches to begin the upcoming season on a fresh note.
However, while every other team has appointed its new head coach, only one team remains. And it is none other than the 2024 WNBA champions, the New York Liberty. Currently, the franchise has found itself in a bit of a predicament. Following Sandy Brondello’s unexpected firing, WNBA fans seem unhappy.
Meanwhile, as they try to find a suitable mentor, the Liberty has been considering several names. And one among them was rumored to be Latricia Trammell.
Why Won’t The New York Liberty Appoint Latricia Trammell?
Trammell turned out to be one of the most impactful staff members for the Los Angeles Sparks. While they faltered early on in the season, the team suddenly came to life and even made a strong playoff push.

Well, as it turned out, it was all because of Trammell. Thus, when the rumors surfaced that Trammell could be leaving the Sparks, Los Angeles’ fans and management were quite crestfallen. Thankfully, there is one particular condition that the Sparks’ coaching staff has not fulfilled yet. And that might be enough for Liberty not to consider her.
Now then, the Liberty is trying to rope in a coach who has quite a significant experience in the G-League or the NBA. Unfortunately, despite having an extensive CV, Trammell has never coached for an NBA side. Thus, the Liberty might not consider Trammell as a top pick for the role of a head coach.

Meanwhile, following Brondello’s departure, not only the fans, but the likes of Breanna Stewart, too, fiercely defended the head coach. Thus, with no other option left, Liberty’s general manager, Jonathan Kolb, detailed the reason behind the decision.
New York Liberty GM Jonathan Kolb Details The Sandy Brondello Situation
The decision to fire Brondello came as a shock to many. Especially when it seemed that nothing was wrong with her present performance. Of course, Brondello failed to take New York to yet another WNBA title.

However, it is also worth noting that Liberty did reach the playoffs and had an impressive regular season. Thus, when she was given the golden handshake, fans struggled to comprehend the decision that had been made.
Recently, Liberty general manager Kolb publicly addressed the situation. He said, “This decision was in no way punitive, nor was it reactive — but it’s instead rooted in being proactive. Nor was this decision based solely on the results this past season. Ultimately, we determined that evolution and innovation is what is needed at this time. This is not a results-based organization. This is not about not winning or winning. It’s about how do we position ourselves to be at the top of the league in a real sustainable way as the league does evolve in the ways we’re talking about on the floor.”
Thus, after all these days, Liberty still remains without a head coach. Now, it remains to be seen how things pan out in the future.
