The Free agency market will feature a few decisions that shock the WNBA world. As expected, some franchise players, like A’ja Wilson, Sabrina Ionescu, and Breanna Stewart, are committing to their teams. Now it’s final decision-making time for other players, too, as Nneka Ogwumike is another player looking for her next destination.
While Ogwumike already said ‘goodbye’ to Seattle Storm with a heartfelt message on social media, the forward’s sister, Chiney Ogwumike, revealed her destination, confirming her return to the Los Angeles Sparks.

The Balloon company mix-up hinted at Ogwumike’s possible move to the Minnesota Lynx. While a championship contender offers much more firepower on the court, a lengthy absence of Napheesa Collier makes the task difficult. Amid this, the emotional connection with the LA Sparks might have played a key role in her free agency decision, as Chiney Ogwumike revealed her sister’s future team.
In her post, she wrote, “BREAKING: 10x WNBA All-Star and 2016 MVP Nneka Ogwumike intends to re-sign with the Los Angeles Sparks. She previously played 12 seasons in LA and ‘is looking forward to returning home.”

Her arrival instantly elevates a talented core that includes established stars like Kelsey Plum and Dearica Hamby, as well as rising stars Cameron Brink and Rickea Jackson. The megastar’s presence will not only provide a strong presence around the rim but also an experienced partner for KP to make impactful plays. She would not only stabilize a roster that has faced a five-year playoff drought, offering the championship-tested poise needed to navigate deep postseason runs.
By anchoring the frontcourt, she allows younger players like Brink to develop without the immediate pressure of being primary scoring options, creating a balanced and formidable rotation capable of competing with the league’s elite.
