Nneka Ogwumike had been one of the pioneers of the WNBA. With the CBA talks going on, the former MVP is playing a crucial role. As the President of the WNBPA, Ogwumike recently broke the silence on the 30-day extension.
Now, the WNBA veteran plans to take part in more action outside the league. And according to recent reports, the 35-year-old has signed for a brand new league.
Nneka Ogwumike Is Now With Project B
According to recent news, the Seattle Storm player has become the first one to sign up for Project B. Organizers plan to launch this new professional women’s basketball league in November 2026 across Europe and Asia.

One of the biggest draws of the league is undoubtedly the financial perks that are on offer. Speaking about the same, a Project B spokesperson pointed out that all players will receive their salary, as well as an equity stake in the league.
They also stated that the players will be offered a significantly higher salary than they typically receive playing in the WNBA. Speaking about the same, Ogwumike stated, “It’s not something that’s usually offered to us, and by us, I mean women athletes. So, for there to be an entry level of equity across the board was eye-catching. It’s something that I stand for, obviously.”

Surely, such perks must be sounding like music to Ogwumike’s ears. After all, the WNBA players had been asking for a better revenue-sharing ratio, but to no avail. Meanwhile, despite joining a new league, Ogwumike is not giving up on her WNBA protest. She recently heaped praises on Napheesa Collier.
Nneka Ogwumike Heaps Praises On Napheesa Collier
Collier made a splash in the WNBA realm with her controversial exit interview. Pointing her fingers towards the league commissioner, Cathy Engelbert, the Lynx star accused the authorities for their lack of accountability.

Soon after her backlash, names like A’ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart showed their support. And now, the WNBPA President, Ogwumik,e too, had a lot of good words to say.
“I agreed with what Napheesa said. I think everybody has a way of communicating, and I think she really spoke a lot of the sentiments that the players had been expressing. She took it upon herself to use her platform in a way that was monumental and is going to contribute to the transformational change that we’re going to see. I think that there was still much to be wanted from Cathy’s comments,” Ogwumike said.
Thus, with the WNBA situation looking uncertain, it seems like Ogwumike is preparing her backup. However, as the fight for equal pay continues, fans now await the next developments.
