The 2026 season will start on time, as Commissioner Cathy Engelbert mentioned during the CBA discussions. The next chapter would be the expansion draft, with the new rules making it difficult for the franchises to make decisions. The Dallas Wings, though, are looking for a completely new system with a change in the coaching staff, as one of their assistant coach, Nola Henry, revealed in her recent interview.
The Rose BC assistant coach already has a great relationship with Chelsea Grey, who led the side to the championship in 2025, and has now joined her at the reigning WNBA champions, the Las Vegas Aces. But she has all the great words for Wings’ players and project.

Nola Henry Reveals Reason For Leaving Dallas Wings
The Dallas Wings finished 13th in the 2025 season with the Rookie of the Year award winner Paige Bueckers on the roster. Their performance in the season handed Bueckers an unwanted record in the WNBA, but now the franchise is shaking things up, and the first thing they did was change the head coach.
Jose Fernandes also shuffled his coaching staff, which gave Nola Henry the opportunity to join the Las Vegas Aces. But the assistant coach mentioned that she still has a close relationship with the players from Dallas. “Obviously, Paige and Arike [Ogunbowale], two really good players that I have a high level of respect for, not just as players but as people. Those are two people that I built relationships with, and so I expect more of the same,” Henry told the media.

She added that it takes time to build relationships with players, and it’s not something that you rush or try to, but should happen naturally. Working for the defending champion also excites her, as she said, “And so I’m excited to coach A’ja Wilson. I’m excited to coach Jackie Young, but I’m also excited to build relationships with them as people and as human first.”

The chemistry between players is certainly important for the team to thrive on the floor, but the relationship and trust with coaches help players to deliver their best in the game. While the Aces and Henry will be looking for a more formidable season ahead, the Wings are not stopping at the coaching revamp.
Are Dallas Wings Entering A New Era?
While the team has a megastar on the roster who would attract other stars in the free agency market, the franchise is leaving no stone unturned. As of the latest update, the Dallas City Council voted 13-2 on Wednesday to hand the project’s development back to the WNBA franchise itself—a reworking born out of ballooning costs, missed deadlines, and friction with the city’s original project manager, McKissack & McKissack.
“This was a critical step to get this practice facility and community amenity back on track,” said Council Member Chad West, who chairs the Ad Hoc Committee on Professional Sports Recruitment and Retention.

The project is $27M over budget, with the city capping its contribution at $57M while the Wings cover the remainder.

The facility at Joey Georgusis Park had an original cost of $54 million, but now the cost is approximately $81 million. “We believe strongly the practice facility will provide our world-class athletes with what they need and deserve to compete at the highest level while delivering real benefit to the citizens of Dallas, especially the residents of Far West Oak Cliff,” Wings CEO and Managing Partner Greg Bibb said in a statement.
The team will be ready with a new roster, training facility, and coaching staff for the 2026 season, and fans are excited for the same.
