The Indiana Fever proved every doubter wrong in the 2025 season. Initially, the title favorite team was seen out of the playoffs following injuries to five-star players. However, the team reached Game 5 of the WNBA Semifinals, thanks to their resilient and deep roster. One player that stood out for the Fever team, despite not being in the initial squad, was Odyssey Sims.
The Indiana Fever’s struggles unveil the unavoidable hardship contract reality, but it was these players who carried the load for Stephanie White when her team was shorthanded. Making it to the starting lineup, Sims was instrumental from the first game, and it was her game that put other franchises on alert.
Odyssey Sims A Top Priority For Two Teams
The 12-year veteran was the second overall pick in the 2014 WNBA draft, highlighting her capabilities on the floor. But despite her respectable numbers, the former Baylor player had limited opportunity in the league. That perception changed in a month when she stepped in as a Fever player.

Making an immediate impact and filling in the offensive playmaker void for Stephanie White’s side, Sims was one of the top scorers for the Fever. She became their second-leading scorer in the postseason, their leader in assists, and their leader in steals. But it was not only the numbers that impressed many. She was fearless and attacking on the floor. This impressive run makes her a top choice for a few franchises, including expansion teams like the Portland Fire and Toronto Tempo.

The 33-year-old guard will be an unrestricted free agent after the end of the 2025 season, allowing her to join any franchise for the next season. With Caitlin Clark expected to return to the lineup, Sims will lose her starting spot. Sophie Cunningham issues a bold warning to the WNBA teams after the Indiana Fever’s semifinals exit, hinting at another high-profile signing in the offseason, also possibly putting the veteran guard on notice.

Additionally, the Golden State Valkyries established a trend of developing teams centered around a veteran player at the heart of the offense. Veronica Burton won the Most Improved Player award with an expansion team. This makes expansion teams an excellent opportunity for players to re-enter the league.
Odyssey Sims Will Be A Great Addition For Expansion Teams
The former Baylor player is not a one-season wonder; she has consistently delivered results throughout her career. She was the starting point guard on Baylor’s undefeated national championship team, the nation’s leading scorer as a senior when she poured in 28.5 points per game. She became a player you could count on when the lights were the brightest.
As for the expansion teams, an experienced playmaker would be a massive coup. The explosive scorer played for six different teams in her 12-year career, giving her a significant advantage in adapting to various conditions. While she showcased a ‘never-say-die’ attitude with the Indiana Fever, having her running the floor will also encourage her teammates.
