When Paige Bueckers entered the WNBA, she found great support from DiJonai Carrington, who took over the ‘big sister’ role for the UConn star. Fans loved their dynamics with the addition of NaLyssa Smith in the mix. Carrington and Smith saw the 2025 rookies’ development first-hand as Bueckers won the Rookie of the Year title.
But midway into the season, when the Wings were out of the playoff race, they let go of both forward stars, leaving the 22-year-old Rookie alone at the Texas franchise. Now, Carrington and Bueckers can unite once again in the Unrivaled league.
Paige Bueckers And DiJonai Carrington Could Be Teammates Again
Even before entering the 2025 WNBA draft night, the top prospect signed a multiyear deal with the Unrivaled league, hinting at her possible participation in season 2. Then, in September, Bueckers joined Unrivaled after a historic 2025 WNBA rookie season with the Dallas Wings.

While the player was one of the high-profile new additions to the league, DiJonai Carrington became another player, returning to the league after playing in the inaugural season. With the 3-on-3 league expanding to two new teams, it’s not certain that both players will play on the same team, but they will be in Miami together, and fans will get to see bonding between the two Wings stars.

DiJonai Carrington Mocks Paige Bueckers For Missing On Playoffs
NaLyssa Smith left the Dallas Wings following her midseason trade to the Las Vegas Aces, while Carrington also moved to the Lynx close to the deadline day transfers. While both players experienced the 2025 playoff success, the Wings finished 13th in the 2025 season, keeping the former UConn star out of the postseason action.
In a recent live video, Carrington and Smith mocked PB as she went on vacation early. The Lynx star mentioned that “She (Bueckers) went to Turks already.” This shocked the Aces forward, who said they were not invited. To this, Carrington took a subtle jab, saying that “cause they (Dallas Wings) were out (of the Playoffs).”
Even though the players take jibes at each other, fans would love to see both stars get to play together in the Unrivaled league.
