The Dallas Wings are in some serious trouble. While there were a lot of expectations from the side going into the season, all of that has already faded. Ranked 11th on the table, the Wings are looking quite depleted at the moment. With just eight wins, the team has lost a whopping 21 games. And while Paige Bueckers’ team is struggling, a Caitlin Clark-less Indiana Fever is making merry.
Now, Bueckers might feel that all hopes are not lost. But their recent loss against the Indiana Fever has all but sealed their playoff fate. In a recent stat from ESPN, a sombre picture for the Wings was portrayed.
Dallas Wings’ Playoff Hopes Fade as Caitlin Clark’s Fever Stays in Contention
ESPN recently released a detailed analysis of how much of a chance each team had in the league. And quite rightly, one had to navigate a bit deep to find the Dallas Wings. According to the report, the Wings had a 0.3% chance of making it to the playoffs. And even if they did so, the chances of advancing further were even less.
ESPN predicted a 0.1% chance of the Wings playing in the semifinal or going all the way to become the champions. Surely, the odds are not at all favorable for the Dallas-based team. But they did have a golden opportunity to make use of the Indiana Fever’s vulnerability. Losing Caitlin Clark to a groin injury, the Wings could have raked in wins and toppled the Fever.

Unfortunately, quite the opposite happened. It was Fever who managed to power through. And now they are sitting pretty at number 5. What’s more? With a 98.1% chance to make it to the playoffs, the Fever rookie could well become a decisive factor in the knockouts. Meanwhile, despite all the playoff talk, Clark’s injury status is still quite murky.
Sophie Cunningham Provides Uncertain Caitlin Clark Update As Playoffs Get Near
The Fever will be fancying their chances to win the title this season. With the team coming together in the absence of Caitlin Clark, they are now well within handshaking distance of the playoffs. And if Clark can make a comeback in the knockouts, then Indiana will have a heightened chance of making it to the finals. Unfortunately, her injury status is still quite unclear. When asked about the same to Sophie Cunningham, she too could not enlighten.

“Honestly, no. It is her groin, but it’s such like a weird injury… She’s not in pain all the time. But when you do hurt it you’re out for another….So I think they’re trying to be like extra cautious so she doesn’t kind of have those little setbacks,” Cunningham said on the ‘Show Me Something’ podcast.
Thus, with things looking a bit tight, fans cannot wait to see when Caitlin Clark makes her return.
