Despite an upset in the season playoff, the Dallas Wings and Paige Buekcers had many splashes of good showing. The former UConn star, widely tipped as the 2025 Rookie of the Year, did not leave any stone unturned.
While Bueckers is set to shine in the Unrivaled after team expansion, her confidence is speaking out. And one such exchange was caught on a recent Instagram live with Saniya Rivers and Marina Mabrey.
Paige Bueckers Savaged While Talking Trash To Saniya Rivers And Marina Mabrey
There were many doubters for the Wings’ rookie, though she was a step ahead of many newcomers this season. She broke a couple of WNBA records and kept her books clean even during tough physical gameplay.

However, Bueckers brought that same confidence to a recent Instagram Live, where she tried to throw some playful jabs at a couple of peers. But what started as lighthearted banter quickly turned into a humbling moment for the young guard, reminding everyone that trash talk is a risky game when your team’s record doesn’t quite back it up.
During a lively chat with Connecticut Sun players Rivers and Mabrey, Bueckers took a swing at their squad, only to receive a hit with a sharp comeback.
“We were 2-1 against the Connecticut Sun. We should be 3-0, but we don’t like to have that little one,” Bueckers quipped.

Though it was a bold move, considering Dallas finished dead last at 10-34, while the Sun, at 11-33, still edged them out for the 11th seed. However, Rivers wasn’t having it. She fired back almost immediately.
“We are still ahead of you all in the rankings so we don’t care. You (Bueckers) were out here starting that bulls**t first,” she said.
Despite the Wings’ rough year, Bueckers was a bright spot, averaging 19.2 points, 5.4 assists, and 1.6 steals, numbers that have her locked in as the Rookie of the Year favorite. Rivers, a fellow 2025 draftee, held her own for the Sun with 8.8 points and 1.5 steals per game, proving she could match Bueckers’ energy on and off the court.
Paige Bueckers Kept Shining Despite Wings’ Struggles
The Dallas Wings’ dismal season wasn’t all on Bueckers. She played through adversity, including a late-season illness that sidelined her for their final Sun matchup on August 31. Bueckers even broke the Wings’ scoring record this season.
Additionally, in a Dallas Hoops Journal interview, she opened up about taking an IV before the game, only for her body to “reject it,” forcing a last-minute scratch.
Though the Wings’ 10-34 record, the league’s worst, came despite high hopes with Bueckers as the No. 1 pick and veterans like Arike Ogunbowale and Natasha Howard. With this season’s end for Dallas, their eyes will be on the next season.
