The Phoenix Mercury thrashed the Dallas Wings in a regular-season game at the Footprint Center. It was a sweet revenge for their recent loss in Arlington, as the Phoenix franchise now takes a 2-1 lead over the Dallas-based team in their season series. Paige Bueckers was the only shining factor for Chris Koclanes’ team throughout the current tough period.
But even the UConn star could not turn this around for her team against the gutsy Mercury team, falling to a devastating 102-72 loss. Even in the loss, the reigning NCAA champion grabbed headlines with another record to her name.
Paige Bueckers Levels Caitlin Clark’s Rare Rookie Feat
The Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark dominated the 2024 season with her scoring prowess. The 2024 Rookie of the Year Winner unleashed her flurry of threes and demonstrated her elite playmaking abilities en route to the 2024 playoffs. While her achievements and offensive game were considered ‘hard to match’.

Yet, the 2025 top pick defied the odds and even surpassed CC’s few records in the WNBA. In a recent loss to the Mercury, Bueckers scored 11 points, taking her tally to 325 points in 15 games. It puts her in the top 10 list of scorers with an 18.2 points per game average. Her PB also has 83 assists (5.5 aps) in those games. With this, she matched a rare feat of over 15+ points and 5+ assists in the first 15 games in the ‘W’.
The record was earlier achieved by CC in her rookie season. The Fever guard had 18.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 8.9 assists, and 1.6 steals per game in her first 15 WNBA games. This gives her a slight edge in the comparison. Yet there is no denial that both star rookies are raising the league’s offensive quotient.

Fans will be eagerly waiting for their first match-up for the offensive extravaganza. It could be the upcoming WNBA All-Star game or a regular-season game between the Fever and the Wings on August 1.
Dallas Wings Heavily Reliant On Paige Bueckers
While the 2025 ROTY top contender is taking control of the games for the Wings, the side must hand her some assistance on either end of the floor. The star rookie is leading the side in scoring, assists, and steals. She is carrying both offensive and defensive duties for the Wings. But the team average drops in the league following the poor show from other players.
Offensively, the team’s second-best player, Arike Ogunbowale, averages 16 points. DiJonai Carrington is the only star in double-figure scores. At the defensive end, the side is struggling with consistency. They stand 10th in the 13-team league with 106.6 defensive ratings. Despite this, PB led the side in six wins and put up a spirited performance against many top sides, too. A helping hand, either in offense or defense, would massively change the fortunes of the side, making them a postseason contender.
