Paige Bueckers’ Dallas Wings have already bowed out of the playoffs, and this is still not the baddest part for the franchise. Owing to their injury concerns, the team has been struggling to get eight fit players in their roster. But despite all the dark clouds, there are certain silver linings for the team. And one among them is undoubtedly Paige Bueckers. While she is the frontrunner for the Rookie of the Year, Amy Okonkwo is another name that has ruffled some feathers.
Okonkwo’s transition to the Wings’ roster is nothing more than a fairytale. While she is now listed as a Wings player, her roots with the team run deep. Seven years ago, the 29-year-old worked with the team as a Basketball Operations assistant intern. Thus, looking at her transition, the likes of Bueckers were left stunned.
Paige Bueckers Hails Amy Okonkwo’s Aggressive Play
The 23-year-old has been phenomenal in her act this year. However, with Wings delivering a sombre performance, Bueckers had to channel her inner Stephen Curry to pacify the fans. However, with the inclusion of Okonkwo, the team has been breathing a bit more easily. Signed to a seven-day hardship contract, the 29-year-old has fit into the Wings’ system without any fuss.

Speaking about her role and impact on the team, Bueckers seemed extremely pleased. “She’s just really smart. She’s a high-IQ player. She came in and fit right into the system and what we’re trying to do here, and she’s aggressive while she does it,” said Bueckers.

Amy Okonkwo Earns Teammates’ Praise Over Excellent Performances
The 29-year-old has looked in fine touch. She made her debut against the Storm, where she dropped eight points and a rebound. Okonkwo also followed it up with 12 points, three rebounds, and a couple of assists. And all of this good work was also duly noticed by her teammates.

Speaking about Okonkwo, Myisha Hines-Allen stated, “She’s been a spark the second she steps on the court. Even in shootarounds she’s vocal and telling us what she sees, and that holds weight because of the respect she has. She played super well today — defensively aggressive, smart with her shots, and creating for herself and teammates. She looked like she’s been with us all season.”
Apart from Paige Bueckers, Haley Jones described the 29-year-old as a ‘bucket’ while acknowledging her Olympic credibility. Jones also seemed impressed with how effortlessly the Wings’ star hit threes and clicked immediately with the team.
