It seems like the rookies are dominating the WNBA. And Paige Bueckers is surely the latest find for the WNBA this year. With another rookie making waves last year, this year has been a season of grim updates for Caitlin Clark. However, that did not mean that the ‘W’ fans are missing out on some classy hooping action. Going toe to toe with Clark, Bueckers has emerged as the next big thing in the league. And recently, she has also drawn level with the Fever star.
The Dallas Wings faced off against the Seattle Storm recently. Continuing their story of woes, the Wings succumbed to a 60-95 defeat. This was the fourth straight defeat for the Wings, taking their record to 9-28. Thankfully for the fans, amidst such gloomy days, Bueckers emerged as their lone silver lining.
Paige Bueckers Makes WNBA Rookie History
Ever since the Wings’ rookie guard has been making the splashes, the noise has been getting louder. And now, with the two rookies facing off against each other, Dan Patrick has declared a rivalry between Clark and Bueckers. And surely enough, once Clark comes back from injury, the duel will be a riveting affair for the fans. But before that, the 23-year-old is piling up on the records.

Friday night, Bueckers contributed with only 11 points. But that was enough for her to enter the list of elites. She has now become only the second WNBA rookie to have scored 500+ points, 150+ assists, 100+ rebounds, and 50+ steals all in the same season. Impressive, isn’t it? Well, this record belonged solely to Clark till now. But from now on, the Indiana star will have another phenom sharing the pie.
Another feat for PB5 🙌

Meanwhile, despite such a strong showing from the rookie, Dallas has struggled significantly. They are now eliminated from the playoff race and will only be playing the remainder of their games as a formality. However, as they build for the next season, Bueckers dropped a major update showing how badly her opponents struggle to control her.

Paige Bueckers Has An Honest Take On Teams Struggling To Defend Her
The Los Angeles Sparks narrowly edged out the Wings recently. In fact, they also had the lead most of the time during the game. Yet, trying to defend a rampaging Bueckers, the Sparks found it extremely difficult to catch up with the 23-year-old. Exploding on the night, the Wings’ star rookie dropped 44 points to set the hoops realm on fire. And while the congratulations poured in from everywhere, Bueckers took the opportunity to delve into some self-reflection. The star rookie pointed out how she practices her tricks repeatedly. And that has resulted in her opponents facing a lot of difficulties guarding her.

“It’s a lot of repetition in practice. And learning and growing, watching film of how you can get to your spots, how you can attack, how you can use your teammates screening for you, attacking in transition and when teams switch on screens. Just reading the possession. I truly think basketball has gotten away from it — it’s mostly layups and 3s. Teams don’t know how to guard it. So I think it’s an advantage when you can score in the midrange,” Bueckers told reporters.
Bueckers converted 17 out of her 21 shots from the field. And not only that, the 23-year-old also had a 100% shooting record, the three-pointer rang, and the free throw line. Thus, outshining the likes of Clark, it is pretty much safe to assume that the Clark vs. Bueckers rivalry will keep the WNBA fans hooked in the future.
