The Dallas Wings got lucky with the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft for the second consecutive season, despite many ifs, buts, and maybes.
The lottery even got the Wings GM, Curt Miller, to compare Caitlin Clark’s draft situation, which was somehow different from this year.
But the franchise continued their superstition and sent their lucky charm, Maddy Siegrist, to represent them during the event.
Now that they are a little ahead of the rest of the WNBA teams, team superstar Paige Bueckers gave a shoutout to her teammate.

While sharing a photo of Siegrist, Bueckers pointed at a playful acknowledgement of Siegrist’s role in the process.
However, the caption referenced Siegrist’s recent offseason trip to Europe, where the former Villanova standout was photographed meeting Pope Leo XIV.
Bueckers’ post jokingly implied that Siegrist’s meeting with the Pontiff provided the “divine intervention” necessary for the Wings to beat the odds for a second straight year.
Maddy Siegrist Was Excited To Represent Dallas Wings At 2026 WNBA Draft Lottery
While Bueckers handled the social media reaction, Maddy Siegrist addressed the media directly following the broadcast.
Having now delivered two top picks to Dallas, Siegrist expressed her satisfaction with the outcome and the general direction of the franchise.
“Super exciting. I mean, there’s so many exciting things going around in Dallas. Um, new coach. We’re super excited with Jose. Practice facility. Obviously a couple top picks the last few years, so we’re just super excited to bring in another great prospect,” Siegrist said via Dallas Hoops Journal.
Siegrist emphasized that the No. 1 pick is just one part of the organization’s broader growth. She also pointed to the recent hiring of head coach Jose Fernandez and the development of a dedicated practice facility as key indicators that the Wings are serious about contending.
