Paige Bueckers is among the top names this season in the WNBA. Making her debut this year, the Dallas Wings rookie has been one of the biggest draws of the league. With her impeccable performance, Bueckers earned top spot on the 2025 WNBA All-Rookie team. While she broke many rookie records, Bueckers’ performance led fans to compare her with none other than Caitlin Clark. Now, one person who has helped Bueckers largely is Kyrie Irving.
And the 23-year-old star has recently decided to open up about her bond with the NBA icon. While the expectations from the Wings’ star are elevating, her association with Irving might come as a boon to the 2025 Rookie of the Year.
Paige Bueckers Details Her Relationship With Kyrie Irving
The 23-year-old is recently enjoying her time in the offseason. Only recently could Bueckers be spotted at a Colorado vs. TCU game. Next, she also attended the preseason game between the Dallas Mavericks and the Oklahoma City Thunder. While the Mavericks got the better of the Thunder 106-89, Bueckers’ interaction with Irving created a lot of buzz. Soon after the game was done and dusted, the WNBA rookie star reflected on her relationship with the NBA icon.

“He kind of just reached out and offered support and sort of offered a mentorship position for me. I’ve looked up to him since I was young, and he’s my favorite basketball player ever. He’s just an amazing, genuine human being. He really cares about the next generation and women’s basketball,” Bueckers stated.

Surely, this was not the first time that Bueckers had expressed her admiration for Irving. Previously, the 23-year-old had a wish for Irving to watch her play. And much to her delight, the NBA star did attend a Wings vs. Fever game live back in late June. Thrilled by the turn of events, Bueckers termed the meeting as ‘surreal.’ Meanwhile, away from all the glitz and glamor, Bueckers recently extended her support towards Napheesa Collier.

Paige Bueckers Happy To Be Mentioned By Napheesa Collier
The CBA negotiations have taken quite a grim turn. With the deadline approaching, things are looking quite bleak. And if a middle ground is not reached, there is a looming threat of work stoppage. In the meantime, Lynx star Napheesa Collier lashed out at the WNBA commissioner, Cathy Engelbert, recently. She criticized her for the lack of accountability and also termed the WNBA leadership as the ‘worst.’ And as Collier mentioned Bueckers’ name in her CBA speech, the Wings’ rookie seems to be elated.

“I … asked how [Engelbert] planned to fix the fact that players like Caitlin, Angel and Paige, who are clearly driving massive revenue for the league, are making so little for their first four years. Her response was, ‘Caitlin should be grateful she makes $16 million off the court because without the platform the WNBA gives her, she wouldn’t make anything.’” Collier stated.
Replying to the same, Bueckers posted a picture of herself with Collier from the All-Star game. She captioned the picture, “Queen Phee.” It is evident that things are becoming increasingly complicated. Fans are now eager to find out how the situation will get back to normal.
