The 2025 WNBA season faced significant criticism, including concerns about officiating, injuries, and tight schedules. But one thing that remained consistent in the season was the Las Vegas Aces’ form, at least from the second half of the season. A’ja Wilson led the side throughout the season, which impressed many critics and even NBA players.
Dwyane Wade claimed that Wilson can beat the NBA Players in a one-on-one matchup. The side also stepped up on time during the playoffs as they swept the Mercury team for the championship. But does that make the team the best in the world? For Patrick Beverly, it is. He claims that the Aces can defeat an NBA team.
Patrick Beverly Makes A Bold Prediction For Las Vegas Aces
Becky Hammon’s side was too hot to handle for the Mercury team, who, despite their fighting efforts, lost the finals series in straight games. Many expected it to be an enticing series with both teams boasting star power and strong lineups, but the Aces remained in control and delivered a flawless performance.

While the execution of the game was of the highest quality, Patrick Beverly believed that the side could also defeat an NBA team (with their recent form). In a social media post, he wrote, “idk if it’s the 🍷 but i really believe this Aces team could beat an NBA team,”

The WNBA is not new to the former Clippers’ star. Patrick Beverley clashed with Satou Sabally over the WNBA’s demanding back-to-back schedule, where he reminded the star how the NBA schedules are always packed with teams playing four games in a week. While the player spent 12 years in the NBA, his comments highlight the level at which the Aces are currently playing.

Analyst Stephen A. Smith even called the Aces’ HC Becky Hammon to the NBA in his post, congratulating the WNBA side. But the season was not at all easy for the Aces, who struggled through injuries, the form of Loyd, Gray, and even A’ja at times.
Las Vegas Aces’ Resurgence In 2025 Season
With new teammates and adjustments to the side, the Las Vegas Aces struggled early on in the season. Veteran guard Chelsea Gray also admitted a dip in her form as she spoke with A’ja Wilson for inspiration and a change in approach. But after the All-Star break, it was a whole different Las Vegas team that put on a show on a nightly basis.
The Western Conference team concluded the season with 16 wins in a row, grabbing second position in the league standings. Although higher ranking granted them a favorable postseason matchup, the Storm and Fever proved to be tougher opponents than expected, and it rather prepared the Aces for the Finals series against the Mercury team.
So, when the team entered the WNBA finals, they were already outright favorites. But they went ahead and displayed a dominance not many expected to sweep aside the fourth-seeded Mercury team. HC Becky Hammon shared an emotional thought on the team’s chemistry during the post-game interview, which highlights the ‘culture’ in the team that kept them going through a tough season.
But now with three titles in four seasons and recent form, no one would count the Aces out in the upcoming season. While the cross-league match-up seems impossible, the Aces could remain a formidable force in the league for years to come.
