The Phoenix Mercury has been on a roll this season. Till now, they have won 21 games while losing on 13 occasions. Riding on the back of a phenomenal season from Alyssa Thomas, the Mercury have quite a lot of reasons to cheer. Adding to that, Satou Sabally’s return to All-Star form has helped the team. Surely, with so many positives, Mercury’s sailing into the playoffs is looking quite smooth at the moment. But the management seems to be in no mood to feel complacent. That is exactly why they have roped in Kiana Williams.
What is exciting for the Mercury is the fact that they are half a game behind the Atlanta Dream in the race for the third seed. And with the quality of Williams coming in, the squad’s chances of making merry this season will be significantly bolstered. After all, she is an NCAA champion and has been proving her worth donning the Phoenix’s jersey.
Kiana Williams Gets A Rest Of Season Contract With Phoenix Mercury
Williams was initially signed by the franchise on a 7-day hardship contract. However, owing to her impressive play, Mercury continued to renew her 7-day contract thrice. As per the WNBA rules, a hardship contract cannot be renewed more than three times. Thus, the 26-year-old was recently offered a rest-of-the-season contract by the front office.

Such a move will benefit the team significantly. The inclusion of the 2021 NCAA champion will further add guard depth to Mercury’s already impressive roster. Moreover, they had also previously signed DeWanna Bonner, trying to benefit from the veteran forward’s vast WNBA experience.

Coming back to Williams, the 26-year-old has donned the Mercury’s jersey on six occasions this season. And while she has averaged only 11 minutes of playtime, Williams’ numbers are pretty high. She boasts an average of 5 points, 1.2 assists, and 1.2 rebounds per game. Williams has also shot 50% from the field and 35.7% from the three-point arc. Quite expectedly, all of these stats, coupled with some impressive WNBA triple-double record-breaking performances from Alysaa Thomas, will make the fans’ elation shoot through the roof. Meanwhile, the Mercury head coach had an important message for his girls.

Nate Tibbetts Wants To Capitalize On Home Advantage As Kiana Williams Bolsters Squad
Head coach Nate Tibbets will settle for nothing less than a victory. With some important games coming up, Tibbett is focusing on winning as many games as possible. And he doesn’t care if it’s against the table toppers, Minnesota Lynx, or relatively weaker Chicago Sky and Connecticut Sun. Reflecting on the upcoming days, Tibbett stressed capitalizing on the home advantage.

“This is the great time of year. We put ourselves in position to have home court advantage, but we’re going to have some good wins and tough losses in the next 13 games. You want to keep fighting, and we have a lot to play for. It’s an exciting time,” Tibbetts said.
Surely, with things looking great, fans will now be eager to see what’s next for the Phoenix Mercury. And for Kiana Williams, it would be her opportunity to prove herself as a champion prospect for the future.
