The 2026 season will start with a lot of promises, but for some players, it’s an age-old storyline, moving between franchises to set a foot in the league. Chloe Bibby is one such star who finally landed a place in an expansion team to make an impact, but things changed within 48 hours, as she is a free agent now.
Many Indiana Fever fans slammed the front office decision for not protecting Bibby in the expansion draft. But even after landing with the Portland Fire Side, the player finds herself without a team once again.

Phoenix Mercury Waives Chloe Bibby
With limited time and maximum impact on the Indiana Fever team, the Australian star has a huge fan following. Players like Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham even acknowledged her support and impact with comments on her social media activities.
Amid this, the Indiana franchise lost her to the Portland Fire in the expansion draft, who later traded her to the Phoenix Mercury for the rights to Julia Ayrault. And after just 224 hours, the 2025 finalists waived her.

The waiver will be applicable for 48 hours, and other teams can claim her in that period. If she fails to sign a contract with any franchise within 48 hours, the player will be an unrestricted free agent again.
