The ongoing CBA became the ‘war of proposals’ with the players’ association denying every option given by the league. Players now mention their demands, highlighting the non-negotiable demands. Fans continue to argue over the CBA discussions, as the delay is creating havoc among them.
Amid this chaos, League’s competitor, Project B, made an announcement that would put pressure on the authorities to take quick action. The new league has already added the top WNBA stars to its roster.

Project B’s Announcement Alarms WNBA
Project B’s announcement already concerned the WNBA, with the league using a 5-on-5 format and slowly expanding its wings around the world. While their upcoming schedule won’t conflict with the WNBA’s games, it might happen in a few years with the expansion of both leagues.
Furthermore, the league is struggling to finalize the CBA, which is contributing to the uncertainty surrounding its upcoming season. Amid this chaos, Project B announced its venue for its inaugural season. As per the announcement, Tokyo will host the first season from March 26 to April 4, 2027.

The dates are strategically chosen, which will allow players to play in the WNBA and the Unrivaled League, too. Former All-Star Angel McCoughtry already asked a nightmare question for WNBA players amid the Project B threat, which already put the WNBA on alert. And now the announcement of the venue and dates will certainly intensify the pressure.

Currently, the league and association are working on a revenue model that suits both parties, and until then, they have agreed on one important decision.
WNBA Agrees To Free Agency Moratorium
Even though the CBA is not yet final, the parties are in a status quo situation, allowing them to continue working under the old CBA terms. But January 11 represents the free agency signing period, and the players are not ready to take any step forward without a new CBA. The league also supported their decision and agreed to a free agency moratorium.

This decision restricts the teams from bringing back their star players or even adding any free agent to their roster. The players also need clarity on the CBA terms before signing any deal, which includes extending the schedules further, such as the expansion drafts and the WNBA draft.
