The WNBA is going through a weird phase at the moment. As the league has been garnering a lot of organic traffic, the dispute with its players has almost thrown the league off track.
Now, with the WNBPA fighting for the players’ rights, the protests did seem quite strong. However, as the WNBA requested a 30-day extension, things have been looking quite rough since.
The President of WNBPA, Nneka Ogwumike, recently signed up for the Saudi League ‘Project B’. And now, with significant concerns around how fruitful the players’ protest will turn out to be, Rachel DeMita has a brutal wake-up call for everyone.
Rachel DeMita Demands Clarity On The WNBPA’s Stand
DeMita has always been vocal about the current affairs going on and around the WNBA. Recently, DeMita gave a bold suggestion to Caitlin Clark about becoming a ‘villain.’

Now, she has pointed out a very concerning trend. With Ogwumike signing up for Project B, DeMita is sure that other athletes will soon follow suit. And thus, she thinks that all these steps are kind of backtracking as they might have realized that the players’ demands might not be fulfilled.
She further demanded explanations from players like Ogwumike to come out and tell the truth. “Tell us what you actually are and stand on it,” she added. “If they are ashamed of something, then why wouldn’t fans speculate as to what is actually going on with this league?”

Sure, this might serve as a warning for players not associated with any other leagues. It looks like the big guns of the WNBA are already having a backup plan ready. And this is not the first time DeMita has spoken out on the matter.
Rachel DeMita Had Warned About The Amount Of Money Saudi Arabia Can Invest
With calls for a fair share of revenue going wild, the dynamic is currently shifting in the WNBA. Moreover, the Unrivaled has garnered a huge response. Project B will debut in November 2026. And DeMita now thinks that it might signal the end of the WNBA.

“I’ll just tell you guys this straight up. If it is truly backed by Saudi money, no other league is going to be able to compete, even the WNBA. No other league is going to be able to compete with the amount of money that they will pay players,” said DeMita.
Almost all of the players involved in WNBA CBA negotiations are now involved with competing leagues.
