The WNBA is on a roll at the moment. Owing to the emergence of a number of talented athletes, the league is growing quite exponentially. With multiple media rights, deals and endorsements coming in, the front office is experiencing a surge in its revenues. And to further capitalize on the momentum, the league decided to expand its operations. Unfortunately, there is a little problem.
The WNBA had 40 regular season games last year. However, they decided to expand the same to 44 in 2025. A major problem with this schedule was that while the games expanded, the calendar did not. And this is exactly what ESPN analyst and WNBA legend, Rebecca Lobo has addressed.
Rebecca Lobo Stresses Condensed WNBA Schedule
The WNBPA is currently going through a major shift. With the athletes at loggerheads with the CBA, calls for fair and equal pay have mounted. Ahead of the All-Star game, the likes of Kelsey Plum and more could be seen wearing ‘Pay Us What You Owe Us’ t-shirts. But while equal pay is of utmost importance, Rebecca Lobo recently shed light on yet another controversial aspect.
In her latest post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Lobo addressed the diminishing gaps between games. According to her, the growing number of player injuries is mainly due to the packed schedule and a meager gap between two consecutive games. Additionally, she presented research conducted by Garrett Gastfield that highlighted a concerning trend.
“A priority of @TheWNBPA in the new CBA has to be addressing the condensed schedule. This season there are too many games in too short a period of time. (Research: Garrett Gastfield) AVERAGE # OF DAYS BETWEEN GAMES 2021: 4.03 2022: 2.81 2023: 2.88 2024:3.23 2025: 2.70,” said Lobo (Via X, formerly known as Twitter).

AVERAGE # OF DAYS BETWEEN GAMES
2021: 4.03
2022: 2.81
2023: 2.88
2024: 3.23
2025: 2.70
Although the point was fairly made. Back in 2021, the average number of days between games was 4.03. And by 2025, it will have diminished significantly to the point where the players will only get 2.70 rest days between games.

The analyst further expressed her concerns for the health of the athletes. And that is something that has been a cause for concern this season. The likes of Angel Reese, Caitlin Clark, Breanna Stewart, and more have suffered significant injuries. And thus, Lobo feels that less than 3 rest days is not at all a sustainable practice. Meanwhile, this was not the only concern that Lobo addressed.
Rebecca Lobo Lashes Out At The Four-Point Rule
Rebecca Lobo is not impressed with the new four-point rule. During this year’s All-Star game, the players had a chance to shoot for four-pointers. And this rule, according to Lobo, made the game boring. She opined that now, the majority of athletes just wanted to stand and shoot.

“I’ve got an opinion that might not be popular, I guess I’ll share it… So I love that AT&T donates money to charity when players hit the 4-point shot, that’s phenomenal… I don’t like the 4-point shot. The WNBA All-Star Game was more competitive before the players were all just launching the ball,” Lobo said during the live broadcast.
Thus, with some significant discontent coming in, fans will wait to see what happens next.
