Over one year, the CBA discussions are still in their initial stage as the league and players’ association are looking to iron out key factors first. The WNBPA handed out non-negotiable demands early in January, with revenue sharing and a salary raise as decisive factors.
One important aspect of the WNBPA’s push is their unity, as 98% of players are ready to sit out the next season, according to their recent votes on the ‘strike’. But now, cracks in this unity are evident, as a report shows two distinct groups within the WNBPA.

Two Groups In WNBPA Would Impact CBA Discussions
With the schedule already out, the WNBA and WNBPA need to prioritize the CBA terms to stay on course. League handed out three major proposals, with the recent one having the highest commercial terms in terms of revenue sharing and also the salaries.
Considering the time given to the discussions and time left for the new season to start, there are now two different groups in the WNBPA with the current proposal in hand. ESPN’s report highlights their stance on the subject.

ESPN sources say a strong debate has emerged within the seven-member executive committee, which the WNBPA player body authorized in December to call a strike "when necessary." https://t.co/hlnOUSutbF pic.twitter.com/5Zet1KZA8Z
One group is looking to keep the pressure on the league and sees an opportunity to fundamentally alter the league’s revenue-sharing model. They believe that players shouldn’t compromise and stay firm on their demands.

Another group sees the bigger picture and adds that there are still some matters on the agenda. They incline toward compromise on commercials, stating that the players have already gained significant ground and are closer to a deal. While the second group’s stand might help secure the deal sooner than expected, the decision ultimately rests with the seven-member committee.
While the chances of finding suitable CBA terms are now getting even slimmer, the league has also delayed its part and is yet to come up with a fresh proposal.
WNBA Not Ready With New Proposal For CBA Yet
The WNBA and WNBPA held a face-to-face meeting on Monday, February 2, to make key decisions regarding stalled CBA discussions. Megastar Caitlin Clark sent a strong message to the WNBA ahead of the ‘super important’ meeting, considering the days left for the start of the season. Sadly, the league didn’t have any proposal ready on the table.
“They volunteered that they did not have a proposal prepared at the top of the meeting. That kind of set the tone for the conversation because we were hoping to hear otherwise,” WNBPA president Nneka Ogwumike told the media.
The league is now set to draft an official response to the union’s latest proposal, which fans would hope to satisfy both factions of the WNBPA.
