The rookies are taking the WNBA by storm. Till now, it was Paige Bueckers who looked supreme in her efforts. Unfortunately, she now has a staunch opponent to deal with. And after their recent clash, Sonia Citron has gone up 1-0.
The Washington Mystics faced off against the Dallas Wings. And while most expected Bueckers to come in with her usual charm, things took a different turn. Instead, it was Mystics’ newbie, Citron, who set the stage on fire. And guess what, she had upped her ROY stocks as well.
Sonia Citron Making Paige Bueckers Uncomfortable?
Citron had the game under control right from the word go. The 21-year-old knocked down shots with ease and also found her teammates in perfect scoring position. However, apart from her off-the-ball activity, the Mystics’ rookie was phenomenal with her numbers as well.
Citron dropped 18 points, six assists, and five rebounds. And the most impressive part about her performance was the fact that the rookie guard shot 7-of-10 from the field. And this was quite higher than what Bueckers shot in the game. Playing for thirty-two minutes, the Wings’ star rookie scored 17 points, with just three assists and three rebounds.

Now, with such a dominant showing, Citron is making some rapid headway in the Rookie of the Year talks. After all, her recent performance was no fluke. She has been scoring in double figures for eight games straight now. And this firmly puts her into the list of the most consistent first-year players in the ‘W.’ Interestingly, her performance against the Wings has also been quite phenomenal.
Clashing earlier this season, Citron had a career-high night. With 11 rebounds and 27 points, the 21-year-old made sure that she clinched the game with a final-second three-pointer. Meanwhile, with Citron making the news, the Chicago Sky must be feeling the brunt of letting her go.

The Chicago Sky Might Have Made A Huge Mistake With Sonia Citron
The Chicago Sky lost to the Mystics last month, 103-86. And while the Sky suffered their sixth back-to-back loss, it was Citron’s Chicago connection that made the Sky lick their wounds. As a matter of fact, it was Sky who initially owned the No.3 draft pick for Citron.

However, they decided to let go of the pick and opted for Ariel Atkins. Seizing the opportunity, the Mystics drafted the rookie as the No. 3 overall pick. And now, with the star guard making merry, fans cannot stop asking for more.
