The New York Liberty is having a roller coaster ride at the moment. Facing off against the Minnesota Lynx, the Liberty registered the first win of the season. Unfortunately, the celebrations that started after their recent victory were pretty much short-lived. That is because, facing off against the Chicago Sky, the Liberty had a shock loss. And without veiling much, Sabrina Ionescu admitted where exactly things went wrong.
Angel Reese was listed as ‘probable’ against the Liberty. However, not only did she play, but Reese also dropped some important points. Coming back from her injury, the 23-year-old played for 29 minutes and scored 21 points. And while this helped her team get a victory, it also exposed a glaring gap in the Liberty’s defence.
Sabrina Ionescu Accuses Her Team Of Giving Chicago Sky Hope
The Chicago Sky triumphed over the Liberty 91-85. Most of the fans were surprised at the results. But according to Ionescu, all the Sky needed was a little hope. And the Liberty’s defence provided that in plenty. Speaking to Lucas Kaplan of NetsDaily, the 27-year-old stated that her team gave Reese and co. way too much freedom in the first half.

“When you give a team hope, that’s all they need. And I’d say in the first half we made things way too easy for them, and that gave them hope going into halftime, knowing that they could hang with us. And I mean, Chicago is a good team. They just haven’t put it together,” said Ionescu.

Surely, the statement made it evident that Ionescu was not at all happy with the results. Coming to her own performance, it was just decent. The Liberty star dropped 16 points with a 6-for-15 shooting from the field. And that is quite uncharacteristic of the 27-year-old. After all, Ionescu recently rocketed into MVP talk after her 36-point game against the Sun.
