Sabrina Ionescu played a crucial role in the New York Liberty’s championship run last season. Coming in as the defending champion, the responsibility this time around was quite different for the Liberty star. Although she had a decent season, her playoff run was not particularly impressive. Ionescu faced a critical challenge as Breanna Stewart found herself injured in the playoffs. However, as the Liberty crashed out of the competition, Ionescu is having some fun in the offseason.
A recent update confirmed the Liberty star’s presence at a college football game. Surprisingly for the fans, the 27-year-old athlete will not be there as a mere spectator. Rather, Ionescu will play a special role.
Sabrina Ionescu Slated To Enjoy College Gameday
The Oregon Ducks will be hosting Indiana at Autzen Stadium. However, the match will not be a simple college football game, as stars will be in attendance to catch a glimpse. As per the announcements, Liberty star Ionescu will grace the occasion as the celebrity guest picker on ESPN’s College Gameday.

Now then, the WNBA star confirming her presence is not a mere coincidence. Rather, Ionescu has been a cherished member of the Oregon Ducks. And this is not the first time that the 27-year-old will be donning the role of a guest picker. In fact, this will be her second time, as three years back, the Liberty star was invited to the event. Back then, it was UCLA who locked horns with the Ducks.

Interestingly, the segment from three years back went overly viral. As Corso and Ionescu held a live duck in their hands during the broadcast, fans could not help but go gaga over the act. Meanwhile, coming back to her WNBA run, Ionescu demanded game-changing adjustments to save the Liberty. The Liberty star also had words of praise for Breanna Stewart despite the loss.

Sabrina Ionescu Praises Breanna Stewart Despite A Bitter Playoff Run
The Liberty did not have a smooth season. From the outset, the team appeared shaky and lacked consistency. However, while they did qualify for the playoffs, the Phoenix Mercury proved to be a staunch opponent. And as they lost Game 3 with a 79-73 score line, the door to the championship was closed for the Liberty. But even in the face of defeat, one name shone bright. And that was Breanna Stewart. Despite a MCL sprain, Stewart continued to play and dropped a whopping 30 points. Unfortunately, while it was not enough to save the day, the performance got a hearty shoutout from Ionescu.

“Her ability to continue to shoot, pass, rebound, defend. She’s one of the greatest to ever play the game and she’s still playing it,” Ionescu said.
Thus, it is evident that although Liberty has lost this time, there are enough positives to be taken away. Now, with a promise of coming back stronger, fans are eager to see how things pan out in the future.
