Sabrin Ionescu’s popularity has no limits. Her Nike shoe line created history, taking up second spot in the highest-selling sneakers list a season ago. With players like A’ja Wilson, Diana Taurasi, and Breanna Stewart also having a signature shoe line in the market, the 27-year-old star’s feat is certainly commendable.
She might have competition from Caitilin Clark, who recently unveiled her Nike logo and is expecting her signature shoes in 2026. Still, the Romanian star has a large fanbase, which was evident again at a major Tennis event—the US Open.
Sabrina Ionescu Shows Up At The US Open
With the final grand slam of the Tennis season underway at the Flashing Meadows, the WNBA guard found time to attend one of the games. On August 26, the Liberty player got a chance to revisit ‘her favorite tennis event’.

The Grand Slam shared a video of Ionescu’s arrival with her family as the authorities received her at the event. The official post reads, “Good to have one of the best shooters in the game, @sabrina_i20 pulling up to the US Open.”
The youngster showed love for tennis players, especially Naomi Osaka and Serena Williams. Two-time US Open champion Osaka even showed love for the WNBA star by wearing her jersey at the practice session.
In 2023, Nike also used the premises to promote Sabrina 1. The Liberty guard and Stephen Curry competed in a friendly three-point shooting contest at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

While the player looked all in smiles at the US Open, she was locked in back in the league. Preparing for the title defense, the Liberty dropped down to fifth place following back-to-back losses in the league. The New York Liberty was in do-or-die situation following multiple layers on injury list, but Ionescu put them back on winning ways with clutch play against the Connecticut Sun.

The former Oregon player is famous for her offensive gameplay, but she proved that she is also handy on the defensive end. The Liberty, on a two-game losing streak, was on the verge of another loss or even OT against the Connecticut Sun.
Leila Lacan intercepted Breanna Stewart’s pass and raced towards the basket in the closing seconds of the game. Following the Sun guard, Ionescu took the ball away from her opponent with a steal. Behind Sab’s stop, the Liberty won the game 81-79 and held on to the fifth position in the league standings.
The side now has a three-game advantage over the sixth-placed Indiana Fever and has virtually qualified for the playoffs. With a strong finish in the remaining eight games, they can rise to third place, which will hand the Liberty a home-court advantage at least in the opening round.
