Many suggested that Paige Bueckers should not join the Dallas Wings, and the 2025 season standings showed just why that was the case. The franchise’s poor performances, despite PB’s impressive season, put them in last position in the league standings. However, the front office is now making significant changes to utilize the UConn superstar to their full potential.
Midway into the season, Draymond Green offered strategic advice to Bueckers amid the Dallas Wings’ struggles. The front office is also working on the changes, and as per reports, Sandy Brondello emerges as the top candidate for the HC position.
Dallas Wings Eyeing Sandy Brondello For Head Coach Position
Bueckers won the WNBA Rookie of the Year award, a nearly unanimous decision due to her incredible playmaking, scoring, and defensive abilities. The 2025 NCAA Champion needed a team that could enhance her potential and improve the team around her. Sadly, the Wings failed to do so in their first season, and the team is seeking change in personnel at various positions.

As per reports, the former Liberty coach is the prime candidate for the HC position after Liberty’s early exit from the playoffs. The coach never missed a top-eight finish and won two titles with two different teams.
Per @JakeLFischer, the Wings are reportedly focused on candidates with head coaching experience. "And that has led various league sources to point to (Sandy) Brondello as a contender to be the next head coach for Rookie of the Year Paige Bueckers."

The report states that the Wings want a championship-caliber leader as their next head coach, looking to capitalize on the generational talent on the roster. Some signs suggest that it was a planned move by the Wings.
All Signs Suggest That Dallas Wings Always Wanted Sandy Brondello
With the guard as the center of the team building, the Texas-based side needed someone who is offensively astute and capable of drawing plays for a player of PB’s caliber. Koclanes was a defensive-minded player, which was the main issue initially, and now the front office is looking to make adjustments.
Moreover, the Dallas management initially supported Koclanes, but as soon as the Liberty announced Brondello’s firing, the team quickly removed the first-year coach, making space for the experienced coach.

The Liberty players showed support for the veteran HC, who will now be a free agent in the upcoming offseason. Adding Brondello will also attract top prospects from the NY team and from the league. Only time will tell whether the decision is correct or not, but on paper, it seems like a match made in heaven for Dallas.
