The UConn Huskies continued their run and defeated the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 70-52 in the Elite Eight. The low-scoring game highlights the difficulty of scoring when both teams play great defence, as well as the tiring period of the season. The player who stood up in the game, though, was Sarah Strong, who recorded a massive performance.
Azzi Fudd already praised Strong’s growth in the second year, and the player scored a team-high 21 points, collected seven rebounds, and added five steals to lead the side to victory in the Elite Eight. While her overall performance was impactful, her scoring night earned her special recognition.

Sarah Strong Joins Maya Moore And Breanna Stewart In UConn Scoring Record
Breanna Stewart and Moore are two of the biggest names in UConn Huskies’ illustrious history, with multiple championships and individual accolades during their four seasons with the Huskies. One aspect of their game that kept them going was their flawless scoring, and the 2026 sophomore also matched the duo in one massive record.
Strong officially matches the Liberty stars’ record of 31 games with 20 or more points in the first two seasons, surpassing Maya Moore, who had 30 such games.

Sarah Strong Wins Fort Worth Region MOP
For her regular season performances, Strong earned USBWA first-team all-American honors for UConn, and now, with her postseason outing, she won the Fort Worth Region Most Outstanding Player award.
Highlighting another milestone, reporter Alexa Philippou wrote, “Sarah Strong, the Fort Worth 1 regional’s MOP, has now scored 192 points in her NCAA tournament career. That’s the second-most in UConn history through 10 career NCAA Tournament games, only behind Maya Moore (199).”
