After the teams contending for a valid playoff berth, there’s another discussion going on at an all-time high in the league is the MVP race. Like all the other teams, the Phoenix Mercury are on fire, and Satou Sabally is letting everybody know why that is.
Days after the Aces coach Becky Hammons backed A’ja Wilson for the 2025 WNBA MVP award, Sabally had her own say. The Mercury star pushed her teammate, Alyssa Thomas, for the nod.

After the Mercury commanded a 92-84 blowout over the Los Angeles Sparks, Sabally took to the post-game presser to hype up Thomas, who made history with her third straight triple-double, a WNBA first. With the Mercury sitting pretty at 23-14 and fourth in the standings, Thomas’s all-around brilliance is just too good to be true, and Sabally’s ready to campaign.

After the game and the gala got over, the star power forward took the mic and delivered her honest thoughts on the teammate.
“I would tell them she’s one of a kind. No on has been doing or has ever did anything like her. And she is the Most Valuable Player in the whole league. Period,” Sabally boldly said.

She was right, though. Thomas was a beast in the Fever game, posting 12 points, 16 rebounds, and 15 assists, earning “MVP” chants from the Phoenix crowd as she left the court. Additionally, Sabally herself was no slouch.
The New York-born dropped 19 points and kept LA’s offense in check. The Mercury’s “Big 3” with Kahleah Copper has been a game-changer, turning a 19-21 team from last year into a playoff contender. Copper added 18 points, and DeWanna Bonner chipped in 14, showing off Phoenix’s depth.

The Phoenix Mercury are on quite the winning streak amid their latest triumph over the Sparks, and much to thank Satou Sabally and Alyssa Thomas for that. While the 6x WNBA All-Star had the records coming for her, Sabally returned to her All-Star form and made sure to make her contribution count.

In addition to her helpful 19 points, she impressively nailed 50% of her shots, including those from three-point range. Kahleah Copper also held her own, adding double-digit points and a few assists to the mix.
However, with seven games left before the playoffs kick off, Alyssa has plenty of opportunities to keep making history. She’s had a stellar season so far, averaging 15.9 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 9.3 assists over 32 games. Fans of the Mercury are definitely in for an exciting finish to the season.
