The WNBA is currently undergoing a coaching shake-up. With most players entering free agency, teams are trying to secure their mentors first.
And there have been some eye-widening incidents during this time. For example, despite having a decent season, the New York Liberty decided to part ways with Sandy Brondello.
And while Liberty General Manager Jonathan Kolb detailed the reason, the element of surprise persisted among the fans. Meanwhile, as more teams have been seen leaning towards NBA coaches, the Seattle Storm impressed everyone by appointing Sonia Raman as their next head coach.
Meet Seattle Storm’s New Head Coach Sonia Raman
Storm had a lot of dreams coming into the season this year. And while they ended in seventh place to qualify for the playoffs, the team got eliminated in the very first round.

Storm shockingly fired their entire coaching team following the playoff exit. Searching for an able head coach ever since, the Storm seems to have landed with the most perfect of them all.
According to reports from ESPN’s Shams Charania, Sonia Raman will be leading the team in the upcoming season. She served as the assistant coach for the New York Liberty this year. However, apart from that, Raman has a host of accomplishments to embellish her CV.

Raman was in charge of the MIT women’s basketball team for a whopping 12 years. And her incredible coaching IQ made her finish as the winningest coach of the program.
Next up, she also served as an assistant coach for the NBA side, the Memphis Grizzlies. Reflecting on her latest achievement, former Grizzlies star, Xavier Tillman said, “She deserved it. She worked super hard, dedicated to the film, dedicated to the craft, and loves basketball.”
Meanwhile, as everyone seems to be pleased, such news must also bring Candace Parker a sigh of relief.
Will Seattle Storm’s Appointment Of Sonia Raman Lessen Candace Parker’s Concerns?
Parker has been quite active in commenting on the latest happenings in the WNBA. Likewise, one of her latest concerns centered on the diminishing opportunities for female coaches in the WNBA.

In a recent episode of her ‘Post Move’ podcast, Parker stated that most franchises are looking to hire NBA assistant coaches. And this, according to Parker, could raise a fairness issue.
She said, “But the problem that I have is a lot of the coaches that are going to come from the NBA are not going to be women. In a league that is all women, I think that the coaching positions are kind of going back to men.”
However, with Raman coming in and many other teams opting for women’s coaches, Parker’s concerns must have been significantly reduced.
