The 2025 WNBA season had been a roller coaster ride for many teams. Except for the Minnesota Lynx, New York Liberty, Connecticut Sun, Dallas Wings and Chicago Sky, eight other teams nearly took every position in the league standings. The Seattle Storm was also one of those sides that reached as high as fourth spot and jumped between the playoff spots.
Currently at the eighth position in the standings, the remaining stretch is very crucial for them. But current five-game losing streak raises some concerns.
Seattle Storm Struggling For Playoff Spot
A game is not won until you have a lead on the final whistle. Sounds simple but equally difficult to execute. The Storm had a similar experience in the recent matches, where they squandered healthy leads. The LA Sparks, for example, overcame a seven-point deficit to record a three-point win at Crypto.com Arena on August 10.
But its not the Offensive lapses that is damaging the team’s winning probability, the defensive play in the closing stages also took a serious hit. The Minnesota Lynx, Indiana Fever, And the Las Vegas Aces took advantage of it to record four-point wins. The Sparks had a similar close win over the Storm in the WNBA’s first-ever double OT game.
With the Golden State Valkyries win tonight over the Connecticut Sun, the Seattle Storm have fallen to 8th place in the #WNBA standings. They are just 1/2 game above the Los Angeles Sparks after losing to LA on Sunday. A few weeks ago, this would be hard to imagine.

It is interesting to see that the last five losses have come with a combined margin of 17 points. Mostly from the winning positions and mistakes in the last phases of the games. While HC Quinn always put up experienced and in-form players on the court to close out the games, marginal errors are still impacting the results.
More importantly, other teams are performing at their full potential. The Valkyries recorded some impressive wins while the Sparks are also putting on pressure on the Storm. The Indiana Fever’s mid-season run helped them to stand at sixth place and 1.5 game ahead of the Seattle side.

Brittney Sykes Could Play A Vital Role In Seattle Storm’s Final Stretch
The Mystics traded their franchise player, Brittney Sykes, before the 2025 trade deadline. The Storm gave away veteran forward Alysha Clark, guard Zia Cooke, and a 2026 first-round draft pick. A heavy price to get some offensive continuity in the game.

The 2025 All-Star quickly became the first option for HC Quinn. Pairing her with the playmaker like Skylear Diggings handed the four-time champions a dynamic back-court duo. She hit the ground running and averages over 20 points and four assists in just two games.
Her combination with Nneka Ogwumike, Diggins, and Gabby Williams will play a vital role at the offensive end. Rookie Dominique Malonga also continues to impress, setting some records in the process. However, for immediate impact and securing a playoff spot, the Seattle side will be heavily dependent on the 31-year-old guard.
The team will have a real test next, with back-to-back games against a strong Atlanta Dream team. The results of these games will decide their fate in the 2025 WNBA Season.
