The NCAA realm has played a pretty important part in the WNBA’s success so far. A lot of the WNBA greats had been NCAA icons who made it big on the elite stage. Take the likes of Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers, for example.
While Clark had transformed the entire WNBA, Bueckers’ stellar play earned her a spot on USA Today’s top 10 women athletes of 2025. And not only them. The likes of A’ja Wilson, Angel Reese, and more have first excelled in the college realm before dominating the WNBA.
And now, keeping the tradition alive, Texas Tech has brought in yet another probable superstar, Stephanie Okechukwu, to their side. What’s more? She is already being compared to none other than Victor Wembanyama.

Stephanie Okechukwu Touted As One Of The Brightest NCAA Prospects
We are all familiar with the towering figure of the NBA icon, Victor Wembanyama. Playing for the San Antonio Spurs, the 7-foot-tall athlete has transformed the team into a championship prospect in recent years. Thus, it is very much expected that any team having someone of his caliber would consider themselves blessed.
Thankfully for Texas Tech, Okechukwu looks like an identical fit. Standing at 7ft, Texas’ latest recruit has drawn comparisons with the NBA icons. In a recent X post, the Lady Raiders have officially confirmed the signing of the Nigerian talent as a mid-season addition. However, despite the team giving her the green light, Okechukwu is still awaiting NCAA approval.
