Angel Reese has recently divided the WNBA into two. With her controversial comments blowing up on social media, there has been a host of opinions going around. With a lot of water flowing under the bridge, rumors about the Chicago Sky parting ways with Reese have surfaced. And now, after almost every known analyst and critic has had their say, a superfan of the 23-year-old, Shaquille O’Neal, has spoken.
Reese has been in tremendous form throughout the season. Looking at her play, it was evident that she had worked to improve her shooting. Unfortunately, despite her best efforts, Sky did not flourish, causing the rookie star to explode.
Angel Reese Gets The Support Of Shaquille O’Neal
Speaking with the Chicago Tribune, Reese stated that it is high time that the Sky’s front office added some quality players to their squad. She also urged head coach Tyler Marsh to be a bit tougher with the athletes. What’s more, she also called veteran Courtney Vandersloot too old to be the team’s point guard for the next season. Following all the drama, Sky issued a statement after Reese’s first-half suspension. Now, while the situation seemed to be pretty complicated, O’Neal has come to the support of Chi-town Barbie.
In a recently posted Instagram story on September 12, O’Neal reposted a video from ‘dailywsports’. The video discussed the slump that the Sky has been going through for quite some time now. It also included the hashtag, ‘Free Angel’. For the uninitiated, #freeangel is being used by her fans to promote the narrative that Reese must leave Chicago and join a more functional franchise.

Surely, such an act of support from Big Shaq himself will boost the morale of Reese. Meanwhile, the former Lakers’ legend is not the only person to extend the hand of support towards the 2024 rookie. Very recently, WNBA analyst Natalie Esquire lashed out at Candace Parker for criticizing Reese.

Natalie Esquire Makes Some Bold Comments While Supporting Angel Reese
Since the comments became public, Reese has already issued a public apology to her teammates and stated that her words were taken out of context. Unfortunately, all of that did very little to slow down the criticisms. In a recent turn of events, Parker took a shot at the Sky star for publicly ranting against her own team. However, Esquire quickly responded to Parker and called her out for her double standards.
Speaking on the matter, Esquire stated that Parker had herself talked about the Chicago Sky’s flaws previously. And not only Parker, but other critics too, did bash the franchise. Thus, she was surprised that the backlash was coming only when Reese did the same publicly. “Haven’t multiple former Sky players spoken publicly about the org? So if it hasn’t resolved already, I don’t think keeping it in-house will produce a better/different result,” Esquire wrote.
Esquire also wrote that sometimes it is better to make things public when all other solutions fail. Thus, after the initial backlash, it is evident that Reese is now getting some support. Thus, fans will now be eager to see what decision the 23-year-old rookie star takes ahead of the next season.
