The WNBA draft sent 45 top stars from college basketball to the WNBA as 15 teams complete the roster arrangement with rookie additions. While the Washington Mystics add size and length with six picks in the 2026 WNBA draft, every team added players as per their ‘need’. But undrafted players can still sign contracts with a franchise as free agents, and the Phoenix Mercury did the same, adding Shay Ciezki to the training camp roster.
Just like the selected rookies, she will also have to prove herself in the training camp to make the final cut and play in the WNBA. But her stats and records back her up for an impressive career in the league.

Phoenix Mercury Adds Shay Ciezki To Its Roster
The Mercury team is failing to hold on to its core and could also attract big players during the free agency market. The team relied heavily on the draft picks to fill the roster. While the Mercury team had late picks in the 2026 draft, looking at their current roster spots, they needed additional players in training camp to make the final selections.
According to recent reports, the Mercury team added Shay Ciezki to the roster.

The 5-foot-7 Ciezki is just the second-ever NCAA Division I women’s basketball player to record a 50/40/90 while scoring at least 20 points per game last season. She averaged 22.8 points per game with a 53/45/91 setting a school record. The player also had 3.1 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals over 31 games.

Phoenix Mercury Selects International Stars In Draft
The three-time champions fell short of a record-tying fourth championship in 2025. But the side is back with a few new surprises with the addition of international talent from the draft.
The Mercury had the 27th overall pick, where they selected France’s Ines Pitarch-Granel. The player spent the last two seasons with Tango Bourges Basket in her native France, averaging 5.3 points and 2.6 rebounds in 24 games this season.

As for their next pick, 42nd in the draft, the front office chose Hungary’s Eszter Ratkai. He had been playing for Hungarian club PEAC-Pécs since 2022 and recently averaged 8.5 points, 3.1 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.2 steals in 23 games.
Interestingly, the Phoenix Mercury had picks in the WNBA Draft after 2023, which, in their trades and top finishes, cost them selections from the WNBA draft.
