The WNBA has reached a pivotal point at the moment. With most teams pushing for the playoffs, things are likely to get tougher from here on. However, apart from the playoffs, the run for individual awards too, is shaping up at the moment. And one of the notable awards is that of the Most Improved Player. And one of the frontrunners, according to Sheryl Swoopes, is none other than Veronica Burton.
The Golden State Valkyries are under pressure about their playoff run. And despite some phenomenal work from head coach Natalie Nakase, the team is yet to secure a playoff berth. Thankfully, one of the players that they can trust blindly is Veronica Burton.
Veronica Burton Impresses Cheryl Swoopes With Her Incredible Performances
Swoopes is quite a well-known personality in the WNBA. “And she has never hidden her feelings about an incident. Thus, when the WNBA legend talks about Burton with so much praise, it surely holds a lot of significance. Appearing on a recent episode of ‘The Women’s Hoops Show,’ Swoopes gave her reasons for choosing Burton as the MIP.

“So, the fact that I will say Veronica Burton has this team sitting in sixth place in the playoffs, and her numbers are so much better than her entire season in the WNBA. And the impact. When you talk about impact-when she plays well, her team is on go. Like, they win,” said Swoopes.

Natalie Nakase Compares Veronica Burton’s Performance To That Of Chris Paul
The Valkyries faced off against the Washington Mystics in mid-August. Facing a tough battle, Golden State managed to find an 88-83 victory against the Mystics. And Burton’s career-high performance against the Mystics boosted their playoff hopes. Showing some sublime skills on the court, the Golden State star dropped a career-high 30 points to guide the team to a crucial victory. And looking at such a dominant display, head coach Natalie Nakase was utterly impressed.

Heaping praises on Burton, Nakase brought in the ‘Point-God’ reference. “She’s had multiple games of double-digit assists and zero turnovers. That’s the Chris Paul era of me when I was with the Clippers,” Nakase stated.
Surely, with things looking pretty promising for Burton, the team will be expecting her to make the most of the remaining games. Now, with the 25-year-old in sublime touch, fans wait to see what happens next.
