The 2025 WNBA Season had been a memorable one for many reasons, especially for the Seattle Storm’s veteran guard Skylar Diggins. The player was a key figure in the franchise’s playoff run and also set a rare assists record in the league. She even broke Sue Bird’s assists record in the WNBA All-Star game.
With this ‘record-setting’ season on the floor, the player had a different story off the court. The player filed for divorce and split from her husband by November 2024. She recently shared a post highlighting the struggles in her life.

Skylar Diggins Speaks On Personal Struggles
Fierce on the hardwood, the 27-year-old was going through a divorce settlement and custody of her two children. She married Notre Dame’s wide receiver, Daniel Smith, but the pair separated in late 2024. The Storm star even dropped hints that the couple had called it quits after asking media members to address her as ‘Diggins’ rather than ‘Diggins-Smith’.
Now, the talented guard labelled herself as ‘God’s strongest soldier’ and expressed her struggles in personal life. On Instagram story, she wrote, “Been doing everything BY MYSLF (sic) for over a year now. Just me and my babies (and the help of my mom/dad.) THAT’S IT!”
“Working, paying the bills, being a present mother and battling through a lot of unknowns… God’s strongest soldier 2025.”

The player, though, continued to stay strong and proved herself on every test. She even had a piece of advice for the league, as the CBA talks are going south.
Skylar Diggins Wants WNBA to follow Unrivaled
Instead of shaking hands, the WNBA and WNBPA are locking horns on the CBA discussions. Amid all this, the veteran guard will be on Lunar Owls for Unrivaled’s second season. As she heads into an exciting season, she pointed out the differences between the WNBA and the Unrivaled league.
“It was very inspiring to be a part of the first year and now for it to come back for Year 2, even stronger and bigger, you feel really special. Now is the time where our sport is booming. We’re trying to make the WNBA get on board to the example that Unrivaled is setting,” Diggins added.

While the league is trying to put forward its best proposal for the WNBPA, the advice from the guard could also help find the middle ground. While Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier thrive with the Unrivaled success, the WNBA remains stuck in CBA chaos.
