In the era of Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers, a new talent has quietly emerged. Going toe-to-toe with the big names, the Washington Mystics rookie has proved her worth in the league. Well, we are talking about none other than Sonia Citron. While Citron was given up in a draft trade by the Chicago Sky, it proved to be a pretty costly mistake. Now, as the Mystics’ season is nearing the end, Citron opened up about her expectations for the upcoming season.
Despite having a breakout season, Citron’s performance was not enough to take the Mystics to the playoffs. With some inconsistent performances, the team will finally end its season as it takes on the New York Liberty on Tuesday. And ahead of the conclusion, the 21-year-old rookie had some honest revelations to make.
Sonia Citron Wants To Better Almost Every Aspect Of Her Game
Citron broke Caitlin Clark’s WNBA double-digit scoring record with her impeccable performance. She also owns the record of having the most three-pointers by a rookie in franchise history. Reflecting on her season, the Mystics’ rookie got candid in an interview with Joshua Valdez. When asked about her expectations for what she can work on in the next season, Citron had a surprising answer.

During her conversation with ClutchPoints’ Joshua Valdez, the rookie faced one of the most obvious questions. Though it was a great season so far for the Notre Dame alum, her reflection after an impressive run was equally matching.
“I think it(this season) definitely helps(in boosting confidence). Knowing that, again, we had a pretty decent year this year, but I still think there’s so much for me to get better at. So, just knowing that my play has translated from college, but now it’s time to really level up and fine-tune those things. And yeah, again, like you said, it definitely gives me some confidence, but there’s just a lot more work to do,” she said.

Well, it is this exact zeal to succeed that might have prompted such a phenomenal performance out of the rookie star. Meanwhile, she also detailed some very important takeaways that she learnt during her time with Mystics’ head coach, Sydney Johnson.
Sonia Citron Details Valuable Learnings From Sydney Johnson
In the same interview with Valdez, Citron narrated how she has benefited from working with a renowned coach like Johnson. Speaking about the same, the rookie star pointed out that never getting too carried away, either in success or defea,t is a great virtue. She also stressed how Johnson always laid emphasis on being consistent throughout the season.

“Just never getting too high or too low. That being consistent is one of the most important things you can be in the league, which is how many games you play, the ups and downs, wins, losses, just remaining who you are and sticking to your values, the team’s values, and just really trusting in that and your teammates,” said Citron.
Surely, things are looking pretty rosy for Citron at the moment. Now, fans would like to see how well she can keep up with her good work next year.
