With the talented 2025 rookie class, fans expected there would be a close contest for the Rookie of the Year award. But Paige Bueckers’ extraordinary gameplay and consistency killed the competition, except for one player who denied her unanimous voting – Sonia Citron.
Both players fought on the court for their teams and were excellent performers, earning widespread praise from critics and fans. Now, before the Unrivaled, too, Citron and Bueckers team up to dominate NBA Legend Stephon Marbury in a pick-up game, leaving him limping. While they could be teammates again at Team USA for the FIBA World Cup qualifiers, the former Notre Dame player opened up on her relationship with PB.

Sonia Citron Talks About Relationship With Paige Bueckers
The UConn star named her competitor as a player she had fun building a relationship with, other than her teammates. Replying to her comment, an ‘introvert’ Citron also showed love.
“I mean, Paige is an amazing person. I would definitely say that Unrivaled has just brought us closer. You know, we’ve been we’ve been hanging out and just getting to know each other. I think she’s kind of just the extrovert that brings me out of the house. She’s just a very fun person to be around. So, I would definitely agree with her and just say that we push each other, but at the same time, we’re rooting for each other, too,” Citron said.
The 2025 rookies were part of the Team USA training camp, preparing for the FIBA World Cup qualifiers. They played together at the U17 level for Team USA.

But Paige Bueckers is not the only WNBA rookie talent; the Mystics star is competing against or facing comparisons. She broke Caitlin Clark’s double-digit scoring rookie record and was hilariously mistaken for the Fever guard on multiple occasions.
Sonia Citron Mistaken As Caitlin Clark
While choosing the 2025 WNBA All-Star team, the team captain, Clark, chose Citron as her teammate, and during the event, the player shared that some fans often see her as CC.
“I was at a restaurant with my two best friends from Notre Dame, in South Bend, and this guy came up to me, and was super excited, and was like ‘Oh my goodness, are you Caitlin Clark?” Citron said.

While a fan could make a mistake, it was the WNBA’s social media team that also used CC’s name while tagging Citron in the post. Fans shaded the WNBA’s social media account for mistakenly tagging Sonia Citron as Caitlin Clark. Luckily, the duo also shares a good relationship and played together on the U17 USA basketball team, which won a gold medal.
