The rookies are ruling the WNBA realm at the moment. It all started with Caitlin Clark making waves last year and changing the entire dynamics of the league. And that tradition seems to be continuing this season as well. Take Paige Bueckers, for example. Despite the Dallas Wings having a lean phase, Bueckers has been phenomenal in her approach. Bueckers recently broke the Dallas Wings’ scoring record in a loss to the Valkyries. Likewise, one more rookie who has taken the WNBA realm by storm is Sonia Citron.
The Washington Mystics recently faced off against the Indiana Fever. The Fever, desperate for a victory, had an impressive record as they bulldozed over the Mystics. While Washington succumbed to a 94-65 blowout loss, it was Citron who shone bright.
Sonia Citron Drops Stellar Performance Against Indiana Fever
Citron looked in sublime touch against the Fever. Despite her team getting bruised and battered, the 21-year-old delivered an electric performance. The rookie was on the hardwood for thirty-two minutes. And that was enough for her to drop 17 points, a couple of rebounds, one steal, and a block. Furthermore, the Mystics’ rookie also had some impressive shooting numbers. Out of nine attempts from the field, Citron successfully converted six of them. She also went 2-of-2 from the three-point line and 3-of-4 from the free throw.

Now then, coming into the game, the former Notre Dame star had 627 points. She needed 10 more to clinch the single-season record of most points. And sure enough, Citron did achieve her goal with ease. With 644 points, she has now eclipsed Brittney Sykes, who was the previous holder of the record, with 636 points in the 2023 season.

Surely, such a performance only asserts her reputation as a dominant force of tomorrow even further. Citron has previously enhanced her ROY case with an all-around showingvagainst Paige Bueckers. She even broke Clark’s double-digit scoring record.

Sonia Citron Breaks Caitlin Clark’s Double-Digit Scoring Record
Citron came in as the third overall pick in the 2025 draft. And she is showing the hooping world why. The Mystics faced off against the Los Angeles Sparks a week back. And again, the Notre Dame graduate set the hardwood on fire in mere 26 minutes of gametime. Unfortunately, her performance was not enough for Washington to clinch a victory. But the 21-year-old surely did break some more records.

Citron dropped 12 points, three assists, and two steals. And this was the 36th occasion when the rookie star dropped more than 10 points this season. And with it, she also surpassed none other than the 2024 Rookie of the Year, Clark. Thus, things are clearly looking rosy for Citron. And while her team’s performance has not been up to the mark, things are surely expected to change for the better in the next season.
