The Seattle Storm shockingly fired their entire coaching staff following their playoff exit. Despite reaching the playoffs, the Storm had several glaring issues to be addressed. One of the major areas of concern was their flawed defense.
Due to issues with their defense, the Storm’s front office added the likes of Nneka Ogwumike and Ezi Magbegor to the squad. Yet, the defensive lapses did not seem to go away.
Trying to resolve the issues once and for all, the Storm named Sonia Raman as the first Indian-origin WNBA coach. But in reality, things are far from getting solved for Seattle.
Will Sonia Raman’s Inclusion Transform The Seattle Storm?
Well, speaking about Raman’s CV, it surely looks quite impressive. She has spent 12 years at MIT, becoming the most successful coach in the program’s history. Apart from becoming the New York Liberty’s assistant coach, she also served as the Memphis Grizzlies’ assistant coach. Thus, there is no doubt that Raman is quite an able choice.

However, even then, this leaves the Storm with a lot of unanswered questions. For instance, as a first-year head coach, Raman may not be able to deliver significant playoff success immediately.
On Monday, Fenerbahçe announced Seattle Storm forward Dominique Malonga had "unilaterally terminated her professional player contract with our club without any just cause."

Another problem is that the Storm All-Stars may want to return and be willing to participate in the process. As of now, Dominique Malonga is under a contract till 2027 with Storm.
But the Storm must decide whether to integrate Malonga into a veteran roster or build the team around her. Additionally, Malonga is currently involved in an ongoing legal dispute with Fenerbahce. Meanwhile, as these questions linger, Lexie Brown lashed out over her limited playing time.
Lexie Brown Was Unhappy About Limited Game Time In Seattle Storm
As the season of 2025 kicked off, the Storm traded their second-round pick for Brown and a third-round pick. Initially, it seemed that the Storm would benefit significantly from her experience.

Unfortunately, as the season progressed, Brown played for just 10 minutes per game. And this arrangement did not sit well with Brown. During her exit interview, the Storm veteran expressed her frustration, pointing out that she was healthy.
“I just want everyone to know that I’m healthy. I feel great, and the fact that I was able to show up every day as my best self and do everything I could to earn time on this court was a win for me… just don’t think I was given the opportunity I deserve here, and I feel like I have so much basketball left to play. If that’s here, if that’s somewhere else, I don’t know,” Brown said in an interview.
Thus, it is quite evident that Storm has a lot of problems to address at the moment. Now, fans will see whether they can sort everything out before next season begins.
