Sophie Cunningham never plays with words and always speaks clearly about her opinions. There is no space left for any confusion. And it makes her podcast more and more popular.
She also had fun with many such topics, like talking on ‘Hot’ NASCAR Drivers to ‘nailing an old man’ at the Pro-Am LPGA event. While those were some fun topics on the podcast, she had to respond to one serious claim, possibly impacting the debate around ‘quality of WNBA players’.
Sophie Cunningham Gives Her Opinion On Michael Porter’s Bold Claim
The 2025 WNBA season introduced a new level of competitiveness in the league, with multiple top teams delivering high-caliber games. The Vegas came out as the eventual winners behind A’ja Wilson’s strong performance. NBA superstar Dwayne Wade even mentioned that the star could beat an NBA star one-on-one.

While he predicted the one-on-one game winner, Michael Porter Jr. spoke about a full-fledged game and mentioned that an 8th-grade team of future pros could likely beat a WNBA team, citing his experience playing against WNBA players like Cunningham when he was much younger.
Many expected a strong response from the Fever guard, but she sided with the claim and said, “This is my personal opinion. But if you are a professional football player, basketball player, really any sport… If you’re in that elite level group, yeah, you should be able to beat the girls. I’m not surprised by that. I just don’t get why it’s continuing to get brought up.”

She added, “If women are saying, ‘He couldn’t beat them,’ yeah, he could. Any NBA star could beat a female in high school.”
The 29-year-old explained her view, mentioning that many other aspects could impact the result of such a game, including the size of the boys. She mentioned that she wants to stay realistic about the probability and accepted that the men are just stronger, bigger, athletic, and mentioned that it would be an unfair match-up too.
Another point where the versatile star was realistic was the future of the league. The star is unhappy with the current situation in the league. Cunningham also shared her thoughts on joining Project B.
Sophie Cunningham Gets Real On WNBA’s Future
The CBA talks have been ongoing since the start of the season, and both parties agreed upon an extension as part of the solution. For players, it’s really a tiring waiting period, and the Fever star gave her honest opinion on the same.
“I know our execs are talking with their people every single day. I think at least there’s communication. So that’s the biggest thing for us. But, normally, we don’t have meetings unless something big is happening or if they need to update us on what they’re talking about,” Cunningham told FOS.

When Sophie says "there's not a lot" in response to the question about the likelihood of her returning
She's means there's not a lot to talk about with the team until the CBA is figured out,… https://t.co/QJa7tjNR25
Many criticized the league for slow progress on the ‘hot’ topic, and players are not ready to sign any agreement unless all their demands get a nod from the league authorities. The league has now tabled an improved proposal; there is no response from the WNBPA yet.
