Sophie Cunningham has always been known to be a straightforward speaker. She has never sugarcoated her feelings while expressing it openly in public. While she expressed her concerns about the upcoming 2026 season, the Indiana Fever star has also been critical of how the league has been functioning lately.
Owing to the widespread discontent about the ongoing CBA talks, discussions about the stance of the team owners have also come under scrutiny. Speaking about one such narrative, the 29-year-old star shockingly omitted the Indiana Fever from a vital list.

Sophie Cunningham Drops Definitive Hints About Indiana Fever Ownership
As the WNBA situation continues with its turmoil, Cunningham has added an interesting twist. In her recent episode of the ‘Show Me Something’ podcast, host West Wilson asked her about the WNBA owners. Wilson was curious whether the team owners were more in favor of the players or the league.
Initially, the Fever star stated that it is quite a mixed bag. While some of the teams put the players’ interests first, others often take the side of Cathy Engelbert. But then, she went on to name the teams that sided with the players. And the reply was pretty much of a shocker.
“Yeah. I feel like at the front line, owners who are most involved, I would say right now, would be New York, Seattle, and Phoenix. They have the funds… And they’re awesome. Their ownerships are completely awesome; they’re very player-first. They know that maybe you’re gonna lose a little money on the front end, but you’ll get it back if you invest,” said Cunningham.

It was pretty much clear that the 29-year-old had left out her own team, the Fever, from the list. While Cunningham did not directly mention anything against the Fever, the WNBA realm is abuzz from her indirect jab. Meanwhile, trying to solve the CBA stalemate, the Fever guard recently had a note for Cathy Engelbert.
Sophie Cunningham Has A Stern Message For Cathy Engelbert

It has been fifteen months since the players have been protesting for equal pay rights. Unfortunately, the likes of Cathy Engelbert and others have not yet responded positively to the pleas. Owing to Engelbert’s stance on the matter, she has received some significant backlash. Now, asking her to bring in a positive impact, Cunningham had a stern message.
“Any time you are in a position of leadership, yes, but just like to influence and empower other people, for some reason our league doesn’t do that,” said Cunningham.
