Caitlin Clark’s injury has surely riled up the entire hoops realm. After all, after her incredible rookie year antics, everybody was expecting another storm from the 23-year-old. But it has been 20 games since Clark last played for the Fever. Yet, there has been no confirmed return timeline teased as of now. And such a situation had drawn some interesting remarks. One such remark came from Skip Bayless, and Sophie Cunningham was quite prompt to reply.
Cunningham joined the Indiana Fever earlier this season. However, within a short period of time, she has developed a strong bond with the franchise, particularly with the 23-year-old phenom. And thus, whenever a harsh comment is made, the 28-year-old guard is sure to thwart them.
Sophie Cunningham Shuts Down Skip Bayless
Cunningham is well-known for her protective behavior towards Clark on the court. Thus, it was pretty evident that the 28-year-old was not going to keep calm after Bayless’ comments. In a recent statement, Bayless suggested that the former Iowa star was actually taking some ‘injury breaks.’

Bayless went on to say that Clark was actually trying to rejuvenate her mental health. This was because, according to Bayless, the 23-year-old was tired of all the bullying and hard tackles. He further stated how the WNBA might be hiding the fact that Clark actually has a season-ending situation. Well, while these statements are enough to create a buzz, Cunningham is having none of it.
“That’s literally bulls–t. No one’s lying. Here’s the thing. When you’re an elite-level player, you not being able to play is the hardest part, mentally, physically, emotionally,” said Cunningham on the ‘Show Me Something’ podcast.

Surely, this was an expected reaction. After all, Cunningham would know the feeling of sitting out of games. Only recently, playing against the Connecticut Sun, Cunningham suffered a brutal knee injury that had her sister lash out at the WNBA. Meanwhile, this was not the first time that Cunningham was seen defending Clark. Her tussle with Jacy Sheldon even earned her the ‘enforcer’ tag.
Sophie Cunningham Gets Wrestling Offer For Caitlin Clark’s ‘Enforcer’ Role
The incident dates back to June 2025. While Fever took on the Sun, Clark had herself heavily guarded by Jacy Sheldon. And while some heated moments ensued, the 28-year-old took a note. Immediately after, Cunningham made a hard foul on Sheldon, sending her thudding on the hardwood. And such a move made Dave McLane, the founder of Women of Wrestling, tag Cunningham as Clark’s enforcer. And that was not all. He also proposed the idea of extending the 28-year-old with a wrestling contract.

Interestingly, adding fuel to the fire, Lakers’ boss, Jeanie Buss, added her own take on the matter. Taking to her X, formerly known as Twitter account, Buss wrote, “We would love to have @SophieCunning5 join us at @wowsuperheroes she is talented, dedicated and a fierce competitor!!”
Thus, it is evident that Cunningham’s presence on the court and her friendship with Clark have become quite famous. However, with both the Fever stars out due to injury, it now remains under speculation as to when they will make their return.
